For the past 13+ years, Survivors Manchester has been at the forefront of work supporting male survivors of sexual abuse, rape and sexual exploitation (trauma) and for the past 9+ years have also been delivering our services across the prison estate.

Supporting the mental health and wellbeing of those that access our services in our Prisons is one of the most important aspects of our work within our OUT Spoken Talking Therapy Service. Working with the prison staff and healthcare providers, our offer is always underpinned with the idea of increasing positive mental health.

Our Talking Therapies have been co-designed with male survivors and those that have experienced other trauma and continue to develop and improve our offer as the needs of this population changes.

This new post will be based in our Merseyside & Cheshire prison areas.

As the Senior Trauma Informed Therapist, you will be a qualified counsellor / psychotherapist, registered with BACP or equivalent.

This new post will be based in our Merseyside & Cheshire prison areas.

You'll have experience of working with individuals presenting with difficult and challenging issues, understanding the multifaceted impact of acute and complex trauma, preferably with interpersonal or sexual violence.

Experience of performing tasks that are associated with managing a client journey from referral to exit is essential, and you will work with the Clinical Lead to ensure the service we deliver are the best.

As part of the OUT Spoken Team, you will provide direct support to the prison population; work closely with uniformed prison staff and healthcare professionals (including Mental Health); and support your therapy colleagues to ensure clients get the opportunity to travel through the stabilisation > integration journey.

Your time will be split 80/20 between the direct delivery of 1:1 talking therapy sessions to prisoners; and the administration/ support of the Clinical Lead in the supervision of the service, with tasks such as waiting list management, assessments, case allocations.

The work pattern has been designed to provide you with an exciting balance between counselling duties and admin to ensure that your therapy skills are always utilised to the best.

About us

Survivors Manchester is a survivor focused voluntary sector organisation that aims to create and facilitate safe spaces for male (including trans and non-binary individuals) survivors of sexual abuse, rape and sexual exploitation across Greater Manchester providing to access quality assured support.

Our work is focused on developing ways for individuals to empower themselves to work through personal and sometimes painful issues, guided and supported by our trauma-informed team, following the trauma and recovery model.

We work hard to ensure that each persons healing journey is driven by them and know, for many of us from first hand experience, that being in contact with other survivors is the key to being able to break the silence and take back the power and control that was felt to be lost during the trauma, and move towards a positive and healthy future.

Male survivors deserve the opportunity to heal and we 100% commit to doing everything we can to make it a reality.

We are taking positive action to encourage applications from people of colour (PoC), and other racially minoritised communities, trans, non-binary and/or older people (aged 50+), to improve the representation of colleagues from these communities in our staff team.

*Trans is an umbrella & inclusive term used to describe people whose gender identity differs in some way from that which they were assigned at birth; including non-binary identities.
