JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Palliative Nursing
Assistant
Reports to: Nurse in Charge
Location: The Norfolk
Hospice Tapping House, Hillington PE31 6BH
JOB PURPOSE
The Palliative
Nursing Assistant is a key member of the multidisciplinary care team delivering
a range of patient care duties under the supervision of the Registered Nurses
and Allied Health Professionals across the Hospice, providing basic patient
care based on providing physical, psychological and spiritual needs of
individuals in their care.
The
post-holder may be required to work in other clinical areas as appropriate to
meet the needs of the service as directed by the Nurse Manager or nurse in
charge and will participate in internal rotation to night duty and unsociable
hours working to meet the needs of the service.
Clinical
- Deliver
a high standard of patient care focused on individual need, promoting
independence and re-enablement where possible.
- To
assist in developing a caring, supportive and spiritual atmosphere in all
areas of the Hospice
- To maintain a
high standard of patient care ensuring policies and procedures are adhered
to.
- To give
individualised patient care under the direction and supervision of the
trained nursing staff
- To develop
skills in caring for palliative patients and those at the end of life,
their carers and families
- To support
trained nurses in their role and work as a member of the nursing team
- To work as a
member of the nursing team under the supervision of trained staff
reporting changes in patients conditions and needs as they occur.
- Contribute to
the multidisciplinary approach to patient care, together with other health
and social care professionals and chaplaincy.
- Cover a 24
hour nursing rota when the need arises (Day or Night shifts)
- To work in
other areas of the Hospice when needed (eg in the Hospice at Home team)
- Participate in
implementing care delegated by trained staff for which training has been
given and competence achieved
- To work
towards a Competency Framework for Palliative Nursing Assistants,
maintaining a professional portfolio of evidence; and participating in the
Hospice Clinical Supervision and Appraisal process.
- To participate
in meetings related to families and staff.
- Maintain a
safe, clean and secure environment for patients, their families, visitors,
volunteers and staff.

confidential information relating to the business affairs of the Hospice,
unless expressly authorised to do so by the Hospice.
The
Norfolk Hospice Tapping House (TNHTH) is committed to encouraging volunteering
throughout the organisation and as such the post holder will be expected to
support and respect volunteers, and may be asked to work alongside or supervise
a volunteer as part of their role whilst working at TNHTH.
TNHTH
operates a no-smoking policy. The post holder should either be a non-smoker or
be prepared not to smoke in any Hospice premises, grounds or vehicles or
when on TNHTH business outside the office.
This covers all types of burnt and smoked products including cigarettes,
electronic cigarettes, cigars, tobacco and non tobacco products in whatever
format.
Adhere to
all health and safety and fire regulations and to co-operate with the Hospice
in maintaining good standards of health and safety.
Adhere to
all TNHTH policies and procedures at all times
Actively
promote and support the safeguarding of vulnerable adults, young people and
children, observing and adhering to TNHTH policies on safeguarding
Uphold
ethical and professional standards and not behave in a manner that is likely to
bring the Hospice into disrepute.
Promote
and sustain a responsible attitude towards equal opportunities and diversity
within the Hospice.
Make a positive contribution to fundraising and
raising the profile of the Hospice
Demonstrate
a commitment to ongoing registration requirements or any national professional
or occupational standards associated with the role.
Demonstrate
a commitment to ongoing learning and development and to participate in any
training relevant to the role.
For
designated roles, the post holder will be responsible for health & safety,
business continuity planning and/or risk management. (These responsibilities
will be notified on appointment).
