Job summary

A Health Care Assistant is required to join our expanding and well established team working to improve the care for patients with leg ulcers. The 5 practices in Weymouth are working together and this role will be covering all of these practices.

Main duties of the job

The Health Care Assistant will join an evolving team consisting of two Nurses, One Health Care Assistant and will work with staff provided by the 5 Weymouth practices. The position will involve assisting in the provision of exceptional holistic patient care in leg limb management, in accordance with the Lindsay Leg Club model, and with local guidelines ensuring excellent standards are maintained.

The role is part-time 25 hours per week Mondays-Fridays.

Support and clinical governance will be provided by the lead Nurse.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Professional

Work independently under the direction/guidance of lead nurse

Have completed a course and competencies in wound care/leg ulcer management and compression bandaging

Completed Doppler Assessment training and competencies

Have proven experience in working in a team

Report any concerns to lead nurse, or substitute lead

Adhere to the Code for conduct for Health Care Support Workers and be conversant with the scope of professional practice.

Clinical

Assist in the setting up of each clinic, moving of equipment, maintaining infection control and manual handling standards and guidance.

Assist in the delivery of excellent holistic, evidence -based care including assessment, management and follow up care of individuals with lower limb conditions.

To embrace a team culture of enquiry and learning which enables individuals to openly question, reflect and learn from their practice.

Maintain members needs and build a personal rapport with colleagues, volunteers and club members so that all attendees receive a warm, compassionate environment.

Assist with the provision of expert clinical care and advice

Competent to assess patients using doppler ultrasound and apply compression therapies safely to gold standard.

To observe the Lindsay leg club philosophy always

To be aware of the policies and procedures of the charity, and to comply with relevant guidelines and protocols in relation to nursing care and leg ulcer management.
