At Ashgate Hospice, were looking for an experienced and values-driven Health and Safety Manager to join us on a part-time, temporary basis to cover maternity leave. Working three days per week, youll play a vital role in protecting the people who care for our patients and communities ensuring safe, supportive environments across our hospice, shops, and events.

Main duties of the job
What Youll Bring:
Youll be a confident, experienced health and safety professional who enjoys working with people and leading by example. Youll bring:
A NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent)
IOSH Technical or Chartered Membership
Practical experience managing health and safety in a complex organisation
A pragmatic, people-focused approach to embedding safe ways of working
Access to independent transport (to visit our shops and event sites across Derbyshire)
Experience in healthcare, charity, retail or events settings would be a plus, but most importantly, youll share our values and our mission.

Ashgate Hospice, based in North Derbyshire, offers free palliative and end of life care for adults with life-limiting or incurable illnesses, including cancer, neurological diseases, and advanced heart, kidney, and lung conditions. Last year, we cared for over 2,400 people. Our aim is to support our patients by keeping them informed, managing their symptoms, and improving their quality of life from diagnosis onwards.
We also provide vital support to the people who are important to them, offering practical assistance and emotional support, including bereavement services.

Youll take the lead in ensuring our health and safety practices are not only compliant but compassionate. From risk assessments and training to inspections and contractor management, youll work with a wide range of teams clinical, retail, fundraising, and corporate embedding a positive safety culture across the organisation.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Leading and maintaining our health and safety policies, procedures and audits across all sites
Supporting managers with risk assessments, accident investigations and safe systems of work
Delivering in-house training and briefings to raise awareness and ensure understanding
Monitoring contractor compliance and working with suppliers to meet H&S standards
Supporting the planning of large events and fundraising activities to ensure safety requirements are met
Carrying out inspections and site visits to our shops and community-based services
Reporting regularly to senior leaders, highlighting areas of strength and potential risk
Keeping up to date with relevant legislation and best practice, ensuring ongoing compliance
