Job description

Job responsibilities

The Hospice at Home service cares for patients throughout Cambridgeshire who choose to remain in their own home in their last weeks of life. We are holistic in our approach and the care is tailored to each persons specific needs. The compassionate team of Nurses and Healthcare Assistants provide practical and holistic care supporting patients and their families.

Due to an expansion of our team, we have an opportunity to join us as a Nursing Associate! This is a full time role, working 37.5 hours per week, predominantly 8am 8pm on a rota basis.

Colleagues working within our Hospice at Home (HaH) team cover a wide geographical area, from Tydd St Giles in the North of the county down to Saffron Walden in the South, and everywhere in between. Although allocated to either the South team (Cambridge)or North team (Wisbech)base, colleagues work flexibly as one team in order to meet patient needs wherever they may be. For this reason, we are pleased to offer mileage expense rates in excess of HMRC as well as a lease car option. Whilst every effort is made to allocate patients close to where you live, this is not always possible we ask all of our colleagues to be flexible and attend patients wherever they are located.

As our nursing associate you will provide safe and person-centred care to patients in their home, working from a pre-agreed care plan you will work in partnership with the patient, their families and the hospice MDT.

Other main duties will include:

  • Under the direction of the registered nurse, participate in the assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of nursing care given patients and their families, working in partnership with them.
  • Actively engage with individuals, their families and/or carers and contribute to risk assessments and care planning, by establishing their needs, wishes, preferences and choices and incorporating these into care planning.
  • Maximise physical comfort and well-being of patients in terms of hygiene, mobility, toileting and nutritional needs and support healthcare assistants in their care delivery, learning and development
  • To maintain accurate and contemporaneous records according to policy.

To be successful in this role you must be a Registered Nursing Associate with the NMC, with previous experience working within providing end of life care to adult patients.

Due to the nature of the role its a requirement to hold a valid driving license and have access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Please note that this post will involve lone working.

Starting salary of £27,061, with opportunities to progress to £29,697.

Please note that the salary quoted is based on full time hours and will be pro-ratad for part time posts. As a Charity with limited funds, it is usual practice for new starters to commence on the minimum of the salary band for the role. Exceptionally, and only for candidates demonstrating significant strengths relevant to the role, we may be able to negotiate on this.

We are a Disability Confident employer, and welcome applications from candidates with disabilities. If you would like support to apply, please contact the HR Team by emailcareers@arhc.org.ukand we will be happy to help.

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity does not hold a sponsor license; therefore, we are unable to offer sponsorship to individuals who do not currently have the right to work in the UK, or that require sponsorship as a condition of an existing visa.

We are committed to inclusivity, respect, fairness, engagement and equality of opportunity for our patients and their families, our staff and trustees, our volunteers and our supporters. We value the strength that comes with difference and the positive contribution that diversity brings to our community. Therefore, candidates with a disability that meet the minimum criteria will be guaranteed an interview. We are also working to increase diversity throughout the organisation, and we particularly welcome applications from BAME people who are currently under-represented.

Arthur Rank Hospice Charity is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults who draw on care and support and expects all colleagues and volunteers to share this commitment.
