BPAS are looking for a Service Manager (we call them Treatment Unit Managers here!) to lead our reproductive health services across our 2 units within our London Cluster.

It doesn't matter if you have a commercial, corporate, or clinical background, you will be able to use your leadership and management skills to ensure BPAS reproductive healthcare services are delivered effectively.

This is a permanent full time role working 36 hours per week - Monday to Friday, flexibly over the 2 units. Salary is £43,587 to £52,385 per annum depending on skills and experience. There is also a £500 cluster allowance for the 2nd unit per annum.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be responsible for ensuring the provision of a responsive termination of pregnancy service that is high quality and client-focused by motivating, engaging, and managing clinical and non-clinical staff effectively.
  • You will actively manage capacity by utilising your team of clinical and non-clinical staff and ensure appointment templates are aligned to facilitate this.
  • Focusing on quality, you will ensure the services provided at our units, including a surgical termination service under conscious sedation maintain high standards of client care in line with BPAS policies and procedures.
  • As the service manager you will also maintain positive relationships with our external stakeholders including local commissioners and the Care Quality Commission (CQC) ensuring the unit is managed in line with regulatory requirements.

Job responsibilities

Duties include:

  • Ensure the delivery of a client-focused, caring, and professional standard of treatment to defined BPAS quality standards and the legislative and regulatory framework.
  • To ensure clients receive good quality care by providing an appropriate skill mix of staff who are trained appropriately, non-judgmental, caring and professional in their approach.
  • To ensure the delivery of an efficient and compliant surgical service including late gestations.
  • Participate in the development of annual budgets and monitor and control unit expenditure in line with agreed budgets in order to maximise unit contribution to BPAS finances.

  • Liaise with other units, Operations & Quality Managers and the Booking and Information Centre (BIC) to ensure the best use of appointments and session times, and to work with the Business Development team to secure contracts and maintain business advantage.
  • Ensure the effective monitoring of clinical practitioners performance against clinical guidelines, defined quality standards and BPAS practices and procedures. To initiate remedial action as appropriate.
  • Maintain relevant evidence to demonstrate compliance with Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulatory requirements and host inspections from any regulatory bodies such as the CQC, Department of Health and Social Care, Fire Service, Health and Safety Executive.

As an experienced people manager, you will relish leading a team where you will strive for excellence at all times. You will be able to encourage the development of your colleagues and you will offer support and coaching when needed. Being able to set clear objectives and targets for your team is key and you will enjoy working with them to deliver on these consistently.

With the ability to remain calm under pressure whilst juggling multiple priorities you will be resilient and tenacious to cope with a busy work environment where no two days are the same. You will have an eye for detail and bring the ability to forecast ahead and plan both staffing and other resources around future service demand and expectations.

You will welcome opportunities to build excellent working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and have exceptional communication skills. Some of your key strengths will be being able to demonstrate excellent problem solving, time management, negotiation, and leadership skills.

You will also bring;

  • Previous managerial experience managing people and financial resources.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting although highly desirable is not essential
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, the regulatory framework, along with reproductive health issues.
  • Experience of working with regulatory bodies, e.g. CQC and knowledge of Health and Safety
  • HND or Degree, DMS or other post-graduate management qualification
