Job summary

Do you want to use your expertise to shape and improve medicines management in a national healthcare charity?

BPAS is looking for a Senior Pharmacist to join the Medicines Management team. This role is for 22.5 hours a week over Monday to Wednesday on an 18-month fixed term contract. It's home based, with regular travel to our Head Office and BPAS Units as required (travel is reimbursed).

About the Role

As a Senior Pharmacist, you will play a key role in supporting the implementation of our medicines management strategy. Working closely with the Deputy Chief Pharmacist and Medicines Governance Pharmacist, you will provide expert pharmaceutical advice, ensuring our systems and processes remain robust, compliant, and consistent with with best practice.

You will lead on medicines optimisation, policy development, and governance while advising on the cost-effective and appropriate use of medicines.

Additionally, you will engage with external pharmacy networks and regulatory bodies, contribute to training initiatives, and support audits and incident investigations to ensure BPAS maintains the highest standards of patient care.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing clinical leadership in medicines optimisation across BPAS services.
  • Supporting policy development and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Advising on the cost-effective and appropriate use of medicines, maintaining the BPAS drug formulary.
  • Assisting in the management of medicines-related safety and governance, including audits and incident investigations.
  • Engaging with external pharmacy networks, ICBs, and regulatory bodies to ensure BPAS remains at the forefront of best practice.
  • Contributing to the education and training of healthcare professionals within the organisation.

About You

We are looking for a knowledgeable and proactive pharmacist who is eager to make a meaningful impact. You will be a registered pharmacist with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and hold a postgraduate qualification in pharmacy practice or an equivalent field. You will have substantial post-registration experience in a hospital or similar healthcare setting, demonstrating expertise in medicines governance, clinical audit, and policy development.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have a strong understanding of NHS pharmacy issues, regulatory compliance, and financial frameworks related to medicines.

  • Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and present information clearly.

  • Demonstrate leadership in change management and service development.
