BPAS are looking for an experienced Pharmacist to join our team as a Medicines Governance Pharmacist and Medication Safety Officer. This is a permanent, part time role working 22.5 hours over 3 days, Monday to Friday. This is a hybrid working arrangement with travel to BPAS units (travel expenses re-imbursed).
About the role:
The Medicines Governance Pharmacist and Medication Safety Officer will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and effective utilisation of medicines at BPAS.
In collaboration with the Lead Pharmacist, you will provide dynamic clinical leadership, offering expert pharmaceutical advice on the proper and cost-effective use of medicines.
Your responsibilities encompass continuous development, improvement, implementation, and embedding of a robust infrastructure for medicines management in compliance with legal and professional regulations.
Leading on all aspects of medicines safety and governance, you will foster a positive reporting culture for medicines incidents. With varied responsibilities, you'll also step into the role of the Lead Pharmacist in their absence.

Main duties of the job
About you:
The successful candidate will hold an MPharm or equivalent qualification, along with a postgraduate diploma in pharmacy practice or equivalent. You will be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
With substantial post-registration experience in a hospital setting, you excel in communicating complex clinical information to healthcare professionals of all levels. Your ability to manage change, lead service developments, and analyse drug expenditure sets you apart. Knowledgeable about relevant regulations and legislation, you demonstrate a keen understanding of current pharmacy and NHS issues. Your excellent report writing and presentation skills, coupled with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, will make you a valuable addition to our team.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Act as the designated Medication Safety Officer (MSO) for the organisation
- Plan and manage clinical risk management and audit assurance programs
- Monitor and analyse medication errors, providing education and training where necessary
- Lead on medicines safety and governance throughout the organisation
- Engage with external networks and represent BPAS at national and regional pharmacy forums
- Ensure policies, training, and materials are compliant with relevant legislation and standards
- Maintain the drug formulary and provide guidance on drug decommissioning, handling, distribution, and storage

Salary: £50,952 to £68,525 per annum pro rata - depending on skills and experience.
Hours: 22.5 per week. 3 x 7.5 hour days to be worked across Monday to Friday. We are open and flexible regarding which days you work - more to be discussed at interview.
