Job summary

Our Community Cardiology service provides specialised guidance in the management of current cardiac symptoms.

The HCA role is based in Community Cardiology, which operates out of The Family Surgery, 107 Liverpool Road, Southport. We provide Cardiology services to patients who are registered at a GP Surgery in Southport and Formby.

A patient will be referred by their GP to our service if they are in need of a consultant assessment, diagnosis, and management plan, or if they need an echocardiogram, 24-hour electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring or 24-hour blood pressure (BP) monitoring.

This role consists of patient facing health care worker duties to organise and deliver outpatient diagnostic clinics within the Community Cardiology Service on a casual basis to cover periods of absence, annual leave and high-demand.

We operate between the hours of 8.30am-4pm, 5 days a week, Monday to Friday. We are looking for qualified HCAs who are trained to carry out ECGs and ABPMs and would like to join us as a casual worker to assist the Cardiology team at times of high demand throughout the year.

Main duties of the job

The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:

  • Decontamination of ECG monitors
  • Preparing ECG monitors for fitting
  • Programming monitors
  • Uploading patient details, setting the monitors to the appropriate duration
  • Charging equipment
  • Maintaining good standard of equipment and alerting the service manager of any faults
  • Decontamination of ABPM monitors
  • Preparing ABPM monitors for fitting
  • Programming monitors, uploading patient details, setting the monitors to the appropriate duration
  • Charging equipment
  • Maintaining good standard of equipment and alerting the service manager of any faults
  • Generating equipment Loan agreements
  • Generating patient Diaries
  • Recording equipment details in EMIS records
  • Uploading ABPM results to EMIS Records
  • Uploading ECG results to be processed for analysing
  • Alerting staff of any incomplete results and require a repeat test
  • 12 Lead ECGs as requested by consultant cardiologist
  • Report any missing or monitors not returned
