Job summary

Would you like the opportunity to develop into a Specialist Nurse or Therapist? By joining Accelerate you can develop your skills and knowledge in all areas of chronic oedema management.

As an experienced community nurse or therapist, you may well have managed people with lower limb lymphoedema. Bringing your experience of this group is important but you will find that chronic oedema and lymphoedema management is so much broader; it affects all sites and conditions from facial oedema to upper arm and lower leg. You will need all your skills of creativity and compassion for this marginalised group of people. You will love to use compression therapy and will be keen to know so much more!

In Accelerate you are given time to develop and time to care properly for your patient. This will mean you will have the professional success that you seek as a clinician and to see the change you have brought to the lives of your patients.

Main duties of the job

You will be a nurse or therapist who is looking for their next stage of their career. You may not consider yourself a specialist but that does not matter! It is your inherent interest and passion that is important now! Skills can be taught; you will be keen to develop your knowledge for the benefit of your patient and team. You will have a special interest in people with chronic swelling and a keen interest in compression therapy of all kinds. You will recognise the complexity of peoples lives and wish to support people in managing this.

You will bring a positive can do mentality; being who is creative and solution focussed is critical and supports the whole team. You will enjoy teamwork and autonomy to ensure the key deliverables of this exciting role are completed and you develop. Respect and confidentiality will underpin the role alongside integrity and the ability to manage challenging situations. Being proactive and organised with excellent attention to detail is essential.

As a specialist you will bring creative thinking to complex issues, utilising your skills to manage a variety of situations borne out of complex psychosocial, medical or health needs. Contributing to the broader development of the service is essential so that Accelerates mission to reduce harm in this marginalised group is made visible. Thus leadership, team working and seeking creative solutions are key characteristics of this role.

The specialist nurse or therapist will be accountable to and provide direct support to the Clinical Lead. This will enable effective management of patient and team objectives whilst remaining focussed on our mission.

The purpose of the Lymphoedema Nurse Specialist in Accelerate is to

1. Provide advanced skills to the population, delivered in a thoughtful, creative and timely manner. Being solution focussed and collaborative are key features of this role.

2. Take responsibility for delivery of all aspects of the service under direction of the Delivery Lead

3. Bringing critique to internal and external systems, driving creative team work to effect positive change

4. Providing an excellent role model for junior staff; mentoring and line management as the role progresses

5. Initiating and championing individualised care that enables people to tolerate treatments and thereby improve outcomes

6. Collaborating with the Clinical Lead to deliver Quality improvement initiatives, KPIs and internal audit

7. Delivering education (internal and external) and business development with other providers.

8. Collaborating with the Business Team to deliver an effective Dressing scheme and effective use of resources with our partners

Qualifications

Essential

  • First level Registered Nurse
  • Current NMC qualification or equivalent
  • Chronic oedema Training

Desirable

  • Leg ulcer management course
  • Prescribing course

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years nursing experience post qualification
  • Experience of community management
  • Clinical experience of patients with long term conditions
  • Knowledge of chronic oedema treatment and compression therapies
  • Experience of working autonomously within a team
  • Experience of teaching, formal or informal
  • Knowledge of Governance and Quality Improvement in health care
  • Experience of Electronic Records systems
