Job summary
Working within
the multi-disciplinary patient and family support team as a Child and Young
Person counsellor, your role will be integral to providing emotional & bereavement
support to patients, families and clients within the hospice and within the
community in order to explore their grief.
The Children &Young
People Service (CYP) Provision offers a range of therapeutic interventions,
which have been designed to offer a suitable level of support and engagement,
at the time of it being most beneficial in supporting the C&YP. There is a
flexibility for C&YP to move between the different opportunities, based
upon their clinical needs, as their journey of working alongside St Clare,
progresses
Main duties of the job
To lead the
C&YP provision within St Clare. Through a combination of planning and
delivering a variety of groups, workshops, talks and one to one sessions,
whilst supervising and having clinical oversight for a number of volunteer led
spaces, to afford the greatest choice in meeting the needs of the C&YP that
we work with.
To
support and assist to develop the Hospice Bereavement Service
To
maintain and manage a database of bereavement referrals, undertaking
bereavement assessments and risk assessments of clients accessing the service
in the community as well as the hospice
To
hold and manage a caseload of clients/patients/families with bereavement needs
in the community, as well as in the hospice
Assisting
to recruit, train and supervise bereavement support for C&YP
To
provide training to teachers and school staff on how to support C&YP.
To
co-ordinate the service ensuring timely and sensitive communication
To
monitor and develop the hospice and bereavement service through audit according
to best practice and client reported feedback
To
offer support and advice to staff in order to facilitate psychosocial suppor
To provide supervision
to counsellors, student counsellors and bereavement volunteers

- A minimum of two years counselling experience, using a range of psychological techniques
- Experience of working with younger people in a counselling/health care setting
- Knowledge/experience of working with bereaved people including undertaking risk assessment
- Demonstrable understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies and how it relates to post
- Knowledge of best practice and standard and latest evidence base for psychological therapies, bereavement and palliative care
- Knowledge of the issues surrounding bereavement and the impact it can have on psychological/social wellbeing, and daily life activities such as a work and relationships
- Understanding of psychological issues in bereavement and how these may present
- Working in a palliative Multidisciplinary Team setting
- Experience of working with volunteers
