Job summary

Please note, this role is only open to a qualified Education Mental Health Practitioner or CYWP. 

The successful candidate will bring their experience of providing low intensity evidence-based interventions for children, young people, and their families in education settings.

The three main areas of the job will include three functions:

 Providing direct support to students, pupils and families in school settings

Supporting trainee and newly qualified EMHPs through joint working, peer support, and clinical supervision (if eligible for the EMHP supervisor training course)

Helping school/college staff to develop their whole setting approach to emotional health

The postholder will already hold a senior wellbeing practitioner qualification, or be able to meet the criteria to complete the university training.   

Calderdale Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is a developing service which aims to ensure the voice of children, young people, and their families are heard alongside education colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The main duties and responsibilities of the post will include:

Support to young people and families

Direct, short-term evidence based therapeutic interventions to children and young people

Delivery of group interventions where appropriate

Support to parents and families referred into the service, including the provision of advice/strategies/resources, and signposting information 

Empowering children, young people and families to make informed choices

Promotion and delivery of the Silvercloud CBT digital therapy programme for young people and parents/carers

 

EHMP support/supervision

Contribute to the support of trainee and newly qualified Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs) within the team, through observations, modelling, co-facilitation, training, and ongoing support 

Provide high quality clinical supervision to a small number of EMHPs (if eligible)

Completion of any relevant EMHP low intensity supervision training 

 

 School support

Promote the mental and emotional health of children and young people in education settings, through development of a whole school approach to mental health

Supporting schools with increasing their knowledge across key areas of mental health, through the provision of targeted training events for education staff

The MHST, is a schools-based service, delivering early intervention and prevention services, working with over 50% of schools and colleges across Calderdale, and anticipate further growth over the next few years. The service has established positive working relationships with schools and partner agencies across Calderdale, and the team has established a broad base of skills, knowledge and experience

This role will involve working across Calderdale to support low intensity clinical supervision to a number of Education Mental Health Practitioners (EMHPs), as well as holding your own caseload.

What you will be doing as our Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner:  

Day to day, you can expect to be supporting school settings to develop their understanding of the MHST and EMHP role.  You will hold your own caseload, providing direct support to students, pupils and families at a higher level of need than EMHP support and/or working alongside EMHPs as necessary.  You will be supporting EMHPs with caseload management supervision and clinical skills, this includes trainee EMHP’s who are on their journey through university to qualification.  You may also be on your own training journey to complete a low intensity supervision course if you are not yet qualified as a senior EMHP. You will work alongside other Mental Health teams in Northpoint as well as wider Calderdale services.

What are we looking for in our ideal Senior Education Mental Health Practitioner:

  • Children and Young People’s Mental Health CYP/CYWP or PGDip Education Mental Health Practitioner
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Two or more years post qualification experience within a children and young people’s educational or mental health setting, with children and young people with mental health difficulties and their families.
  • Evidence of delivering low intensity CBT
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • You may be ready to embark on your Senior Trainee EMHP journey at University (2-year course), you might be mid-way through your training, or about to qualify/ or already qualified)
