Job summary

At Alice House Hospice, we are proud to provide exceptional care and support to our community and we are looking for a dedicated Management & Project Accountant to join our Finance team to play a key role in ensuring the financial sustainability of our vital services future

In this key role youll lead the day-to-day financial operations of the charity ensuring robust controls accurate reporting, and compliance with statutory standards Working closely with our Director of Finance youll provide the insight and analysis that enables our leadership team and trustees to make confident, informed decisions

Main duties of the job

Overseeing financial accounting processes including month end and year end reporting audit and reconciliations

Supporting the preparation of management accounts budget setting variance analysis and funding bids

Driving process improvements supporting digital transformation and helping us get the most from our finance systems

Building strong relationships with colleagues across the organisation presenting financial information in a clear accessible way

Helping ensure we remain financially sustainable so we can continue to deliver life changing services

Job description

Job responsibilities

2.1 Financial Accounting

Support the preparation of month end and year-end financial accounts, ensuring compliance with the relevant statutory and regulatory financial reporting needs (Charity SORP, FRS 102)

Support the annual audit process by providing accurate schedules.

Oversee the general ledger activities, ensuring accuracy and timely reconciliations.

Review and monitor regulatory returns e.g. HMRC, Pensions, Gambling Commission

2.2 Management Accounting

Assist in the production of management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary, adhering to strict deadlines

Work with budget managers to support annual budget setting and cost control, ensuring value for money.

Provide financial analysis and reports for funding bids and grants.

2.3 Process Improvement & Systems

Support the implementation and development of finance systems, interfaces and reporting tools.

Contribute to the development of financial policies and procedures.

Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and financial controls.

Support digital transformation initiatives where applicable.

2.4 Business Partnering & Support

Create effective relationships with colleagues, collaborating and working jointly to deliver growth, excellent levels of service and financial education.

Present financial data in accessible formats for non-financial stakeholders.

Assist in the preparation of business cases and service costing.

Essential

  • AAT qualified or part qualified accountant (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)
  • Degree or Higher Business qualification

Desirable

  • Experience managing or supervising a finance team

Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of double entry bookkeeping and reconciliations
  • Familiarity of financial procedures for payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets and cashbook
  • Knowledge of charity accounting principles
  • Experience of and ability to use SAGE accounting package
  • Experience of SAGE payroll system
  • Experience of SMI HR & Payroll modules
  • Excellent Excel and financial system skills including knowledge of advanced Excel functionality
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Ability to show initiative in problem solving when dealing with conflicting demands
  • Highly organised multitasker accustomed to prioritising workload
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and high standards of service
  • Positive, collaborative approach to team leadership
  • Understanding of and empathy for the work of Alice House Hospice
