Job summary

This role will be working with:

Consultant, ST3, 2 doctors, Nurse Practitioner and F2 

Alice House Hospice exists to ensure people affected by a life limiting illness or the death of a loved one have the care, comfort and support they need. As the only adult Hospice in the Hartlepool and East Durham areas of the UK, our unique range of services make a vital difference to the lives of thousands of families each year.

Main duties of the job

Ø To provide treatment for all patients within Hospice care across all clinical areas to ensure a high standard of medical care provision is delivered.

Ø To provide effective medical advice and support over the telephone ensuring effective palliative care support is available within the community.

Ø To play an effective key role within the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that effective holistic care of a high standard is available to all patients.

Ø Participation in a non-residential on call medical Rota, to ensure 24 hour medical support.

Ø To liaise with other health care professionals in hospitals and communities to ensure seamless provision of palliative care.

Ø To support teaching programmes and training of junior staff and students in palliative care to encourage high standards of practice.

Ø To commit to continuous professional development to extend knowledge and skills in specialist palliative care.

Ø To be committed to revalidation and appraisal processes.

Ø To participate in audit and research projects.

Ø To play an effective role in delivering actions from the Clinical Governance Group to ensure high standards of care are delivered and take an active role in audit and research project carried out by the Hospice.

Job responsibilities

1.0 Job Purpose

To provide medical care for all patients of Alice House Hospice across all clinical areas and play a key role as a member of the Multidisciplinary Team.

2.0 Key Tasks

Ø 2 years post graduate experience

Ø Demonstrable interest in Palliative Care.

Ø Understanding of Collective Responsibility

4.0 Information pertaining to On-Call

· When accepting responsibility on a day-to-day basis telephone support will be available from a senior medical colleague.

· It is a requirement of week-end on call for the Hospice to be visited daily.

· To be located within 1 hour of travel time of the Hospice.
