Job summary

This an exciting opportunity to become our first Corporate Services Director of HUC.

We are an innovative, social enterprise providing NHS services currently across the Southwest and East of England. We have grown significantly over the last few years and are now looking for our first Director of Corporate Services to help support our ambitious corporate strategy.

As an Executive Board member, you will lead the strategic direction, planning, decision making and overall performance of the Corporate Services Directorate including Governance, Estates/Facilities, People, Digital, Risk, Communications and Marketing ensuring our corporate services align to our business needs and organisational objectives.

Main duties of the job

Leadership: A member of the HUC Board of Directors. Ensuring the teams strategic direction aligns to the Boards. Providing the Board with assurance around:

Governance including Data Protection,

-People,

-Digital delivery,

-Communications and Marketing,

-Risk management including health and safety

-Including the development of dashboards.

-Mentor, coach and develop your direct reports.

-Support the delivery of our People Strategy.

Engagement: Lead on coordinating and writing of the mandatory reporting requirements for the organisation such as Annual Report and Accountability Report.

Support HUC public engagement as a Board member and in role leading the Communications, Marketing and People teams.

Compliance:Oversight of information governance, risk assessment and management processes within the Organisation. Advising the Board on the effectiveness of information risk management across the Organisation.

Support the development and approval process for new policies and processes as required, keeping abreast of changes in law and best practice.

Ensure that all relevant mandated submissions are made with respect to Data Protection and Physical and Digital Security with the aim of exceeding minimum standards.

Support colleagues to ensure digital resilience across all services and geographical locations.

Responsible to: Chief Executive

Main DutiesGovernance and Assurance

Provide board-level leadership for all aspects of governance and assurance.

Support the Head of Assurance and Company Secretary in ensuring that all legal and mandatory responsibilities of the organisation are met.

Support the wider executive in the development and monitoring of a strategic dashboard linked to the organisations core objectives.

Support the board and its sub-committees through the development of agendas, papers, minutes, action tracking and managing the annual cycle of activity.

Organisational Policies

Ensure the organisation has appropriate policies and processes in place, including finance, employment, clinical, health and safety, anti-corruption, governance, data protection and social media, and that these are reviewed regularly and submitted for board approval.

Work with the Communications team to ensure that all relevant polices are updated on the organisations intranet and where appropriate on our public-facing website.

Support the development and approval process for new policies and processes as required, keeping abreast of changes in law and best practice which may affect these.

Data Protection

Provide board-level leadership and assurance for all elements of data protection ensuring HUCs data is protected and managed in accordance with the law, ICO requirements, and compliance with commissioner requirements.

Support the Head of Assurance and Head of Information Governance in ensuring that all mandatory requirements for data protection are upheld and support good practice, training, and audit throughout the organisation.

Ensure appropriate policies, guidance and training are in place.

Ensure that all relevant mandated submissions are made with respect to data protection and security with the aim of exceeding minimum standards.

People

Provide board-level representation of the People function across HUC, with accountability for all elements of the function and compliance.

Work with the two Heads in our People team to develop, implement and deliver an effective workforce / people strategy supporting recruitment and retention.

Support the Head of People Strategy and Insourcing, and external advisors, to ensure appropriate policies and processes are embedded into the organisation and that contractual obligations are up to date an in line with legislation and best practice.

Support the Head of People Strategy and Insourcing and wider team with the recruitment and retention strategies for key roles and their development.

Influence internally and externally to harness opportunities for integrated solutions relating to people management and transactional activity.

Regularly review HUCs talent management processes, including performance, with the senior management team and line managers

Support the Head of People Strategy and Insourcing with day-to-day HR queries, record-keeping, and monitoring, utilising external consultants for complex issues.

Provide board-level leadership for our workforce / people, health & wellbeing strategy, and compliance.

Support and inform the development and implementation of the organisations people strategy in line with organisational values, objectives, and priorities, with a real commitment to embedding an inclusive high-performing culture delivered by a diverse workforce.

Provide board-level responsibility for ensuring that the annual review of the organisations pay structure is carried out and development of pay strategy associated with budgetary limitations.

Provide board-level responsibility for ensuring that the organisations employee survey is carried out on an annual basis and that responses are collated, communicated and an action plan to address key themes is produced.

Digital

Provide board-level leadership and delivery assurance of HUCs digital function.

Provide assurance and audited evidence that all aspects of cyber security protection across the organisation are in place and performing to the required standards.

Provide assurance that the support functions and skill set is aligned to the organisational needs and future growth.

Support the development of plans to improve digital resilience across all services and geographical locations to provide 99.95% up time.

In conjunction with the Commercial team, develop new and innovative solutions to support clinical and operational delivery.

Provide overall leadership of the management of external digital suppliers and support services in compliance with the associated SLA and organisational needs.

Provide line management for the Head of IT Infrastructure role.

Communications & Marketing

Work with the Head of Communications & Marketing to develop an effective communications and marketing strategy, showcasing the organisations strength, successes, and quality.

Ensure the development of HUCs brand is aligned to organisational growth, NHS directives and strategy, and the identification of key messages.

Ensure HUC effectively communicates, prioritises, and promotes its key messages, services, and products to improve awareness, engagement, and support across multiple platforms.

Develop process and mechanisms to ensure all functions within HUC benefit from communications and marketing advice and support.

Ensure HUC has an effective social media presence that showcases the organisations values and commitments to healthcare.

Support the People team with effective recruitment campaigns by providing branding materials, web presence and promotion of job adverts.

Risk Management

Provide board-level assurance and accountability for the capturing and management of all corporate and departmental risks.

Work with the Head of Assurance to ensure a program of risk review, mitigation and assurance is carried out and reported to the board as required.

Ensure HUC risk registers are up to date, risk actions recorded and followed up.

Report on risk to the executive, senior management team, relevant committees, and board to inform decision-making.

Arrange for risk training across the organisation, ensuring the various teams understand their responsibilities in managing and mitigating risk at all levels.

Provide line management for the Head of Assurance / Company Secretary role.

Health & Safety

Act as the named responsible Officer for Health & Safety at board level in line with legislative and regulatory requirements.

Ensure there are appropriate policies, procedures, and guidelines for health & safety and that they are audited on a regular basis.

Lead on review and development of action plans for health & safety policy and operational practice and ensure this is carried out.

Support the Corporate Service Manager in ensuring that all inspections, fire inspections and statutory testing has been completed and documented in line with associated timescales and standards.

Provide line management for the Corporate Service Manager role.

Facilities Management

Work with landlords to ensure offices are secure and safe and contacts are in place to provide support and maintenance in line with the organisations needs.

Ensure appropriate furniture, equipment and infrastructure is in place along with associated support agreements.

Support with HUCs presence at tenants meetings to ensure the organisations needs and requirements are represented.
