Non-Executive Director - Finance & Governance

HUC is seeking a Non-Executive Director with senior finance and governance expertise to join our Board.

This is an opportunity to use your financial leadership experience to make a meaningful impact on patient care, workforce wellbeing, and community health.

Main duties of the job

About the RoleAs a Non-Executive Director, you will provide independent oversight, constructive challenge, and strategic guidance at Board level. With a specific focus on Finance & Governance, you will support the organisation to remain financially resilient, well controlled, and forward looking in how it manages risk and resources.You will help ensure financial decisions are grounded not only in strong commercial judgement, but also in a clear understanding of how they affect patients and colleagues. You will work closely with fellow Board members and the executive team, building trusted and respectful relationships that enable open discussion, transparent decision-making, and collective accountability.In a complex and evolving healthcare environment, you will support a culture that embraces learning, continuous improvement, and innovation, ensuring governance frameworks enable the organisation to adapt while maintaining the highest standards of integrity and assurance.You may serve on, and potentially chair, committees such as Finance, Audit, or Risk.

  • Degree-or equivalent and/or professional qualification

Desirable

  • Degree in finance/business/management /clinical qualification

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Ability to understand complex strategic issues, analyse, resolve difficult problems and make strategic decisions
  • Experience of performance management and KPI's
  • Commercial acumen
  • Commercial experience gained at a senior level developing business growth;
  • OR
  • Clinical and patient safety expertise gained as a GP, secondary care clinician,, nursing or allied disciplines, preferably with experience at a senior level;
  • OR
  • Relevant business/financial planning experience, coupled to strategic growth and development of financial resilience
  • OR
  • oRelevant business/financial planning experience, coupled to strategic growth and development of financial resilience

Desirable

  • Experience of Healthcare/social care sector
  • Knowledge of the NHS in Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire
  • Previous Board Director experience, either Executive and ideally, Non-Executive
  • A recognised financial qualification
