Job summary
The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) role for the Urgent Care service is one that is focused on the delivery of high-quality patient-centric care within the Barrow Together PCN.
This is a new service for Barrow Together PCN, operated on their behalf by Morecambe Bay Primary Care Collaborative (MBPCC is the) GP Federation. The role will be clinical and patient-facing, based in one of the brand new clinical rooms at our newly refurbished Urgent Care centre.
An ANP will assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients presenting with a wide range of urgent and acute needs. They will work alongside GPs and the multidisciplinary team, ensuring patients receive timely care, advice, and safe onward referral.
Main duties of the job
Assess and triage urgent care patients, including same day and provide treatment if appropriate or make the necessary referrals
Assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions and care for patients presenting with an undifferentiated diagnosis and identify red flags.
Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective and plan clinical care accordingly.
You will be responsible for diagnosing and treating patients presenting with minor illnesses, or attending with a new medical complaint, as well as seeing and advising patients regarding continuing medical needs. You will be able to work independently, however, clinical support will always be available.
Assess, diagnosis, plan, implement and evaluate interventions/treatments for patients with complex needs.
Proactively identify, diagnose and manage treatment plans for patients at risk of developing a long-term condition, as appropriate.
Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions, integrating both drug and non-drug-based treatment methods into a management plan.
Prescribe and review medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice.

To have an awareness of the occupational health implications that both physical and psychological problems can have on an individual's ability to fulfil their role. A desirable skill and experience for this aspect of the job would therefore be knowledge or experience working in the field of occupational health, although training will be given.
Support patients to adopt health promotion strategies that promote healthy lifestyles and apply principles of self care.
Undertake minor surgery as appropriate to competence.
Communication
Utilise and demonstrate sensitive communication styles, to ensure patients are fully informed and consent to treatment.
Communicate with and support patients who are receiving bad news.
