Job summary

We are looking for compassionate and flexible Health Care Assistants to join our Childrens Service at ellenor on a flexibank basis, covering maternity leave. You'll help provide vital respite care to children with life-limiting conditions and their families across Dartford, Gravesham, Swanley, and Bexley.

Main duties of the job

Being involved with all aspects of care for patients.

Delivering the highest quality holistic patient care including personal care.

Assist with meals, feed patients where necessary and undertake any other duties that are considered to fall within the scope of the health care assistant role.

Maintain all relevant documentation to the highest standards in line with mandatory legal requirements paying particular attention to accuracy using electronic reporting systems (Emis).

Job responsibilities

Work as a member of the Respite Team in direct partnership

with the Specialist Childrens Nursing team to provide holistic

care to children and young people in their own homes.

Provide basic and routine care to patients and undertake a

designated range of clinical interventions as delegated and

supervised by a Registered Nurse.

Achieve and maintain high standards of nursing care at all

times.

Preserve and promote patient and family dignity and self

esteem.

Assist in promoting patient independence and choice.

Maintain a respectful, non-judgmental, and caring attitude towards

all patients and their families.

Recognise and report any changes in the condition of the

patient and family.

Assist in ensuring that patients are nursed in a safe, friendly,

clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment.

Promote an environment where relatives may participate

appropriately as partners in a caring team.

Assist with the assessment of patients nutritional needs and

the ordering of patients meals.

Assist patients at mealtimes, including feeding patients if

required.

Assist with and encourage the use of diversional and leisure

activities, including the Therapeutic Activity Group (TAG) and

Complementary Therapies.

Develop, plan and deliver structured group activities for

children and young people aged 019 and their families.

Communicate relevant information about patients to the ward

team at shift handover reports and other relevant meetings.

Listen and talk with patients, relatives, and friends, and report any

relevant information to the registered nurse.

Assist with relevant documentation involving the

admission/discharge of patients utilising electronic reporting

systems.

Participate in risk assessments, e.g., manual handling, mouth

care, and pressure ulcer prevention.

Participate in bereavement support initiatives, e.g.,

bereavement teas.
