Night Shifts - depending on patients family requirements.
We are looking for Flexibank Healthcare Assistants who are passionate about supporting patients and families overnight in their own home when they are nearing End of Life or having a crisis. You will support and enable families to cope by giving them some respite overnight. This role will require lone working.

Main duties of the job
Are you passionate about ensuring patients and their families receive the best possible care in their own home, both for symptom control and psychological support?
You will be required to work a 9 shift pattern, in line with the needs of the family. Successful applicants will be given training around supporting patients receiving end of life care.

ellenor Hospice is a charity and a specialist palliative care provider for adults and children in Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley, and for children across the London Borough of Bexley. The organisation provides the majority of its care in the patients home with a comprehensive Hospice at Home Service, in addition we have an inpatient ward and a range of Wellbeing and Therapeutic services that support patients and families.

Job responsibilities
1. provide basic and routine care to patients and undertake a designated range of clinical interventions as delegated and supervised by a Registered Nurse;
2. achieve and maintain high standards of nursing care at all times;
3. preserve and promote patient and family dignity and self esteem;
4. assist in promoting patient independence and choice;
5. maintain a respectful, non-judgemental and caring attitude towards all patients and their families;
6. recognise and report any changes in the condition of the patient and family;
7. assist in ensuring that patients are nursed in a safe, friendly, clean, comfortable and welcoming environment;
8. promote an environment where relatives may participate appropriately as partners in a caring team;
9. assist with the assessment of patients nutritional needs and ordering of patients meals;
10. assist with and encourage the use of diversional and leisure activities, including the use of the Day Centre and Complementary therapies;
11. communicate relevant information about patients to the ward team at shift hand over reports and other relevant meetings;
12. listen and talk with patients, relatives and friends and report to the Registered Nurse any relevant information;
13. escort patients at the discretion of a Registered Nurse e.g. to the hospital;
14. assist with relevant documentation involving the admission/discharge of patients;
15. participate in risk assessments e.g. manual handling, mouth care, pressure ulcer prevention;
16. participate in bereavement support initiatives e.g. bereavement teas and visits.

- Education: NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health & Social Care.
- Experience _ Recent experience of caring for patients in a community, inpatient setting or care home .
- Experience in caring for dying patients and nursing patients with a life limiting illness and in end of life care.
- Experience of working as part of a team.
- Ability to work without direct supervision and use own initiative.
- Up to date clinical nursing skills.
- Possesses good IT skills and able to use
- a range of software (e.g. Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Good understanding of the needs of patients and families at the end of life.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Have empathy and understanding of issues encountered by patients with palliative care needs.
- Confident, calm and enthusiastic.
- Willingness to work unsocial hours including weekends and nights
- Flexible approach to working patterns.
- Able to work in stressful situation.
- Team player and confident to work without direct supervision.
Desirable
- End of Life Training/ certificate.
- Experience of working in a specialist
- palliative care setting
- Experience of cannulation and venepuncture or willingness to undertake training
- Hold a current and valid driving licence
- and have access to a vehicle essential for community roles.
