An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Physician Associate to work within the Care Collaborative Primary Care Network (PCN). Whilst General Practice has some challenging times ahead, this role provides an exciting and innovative career choice for someone who wants to make a real difference in the communities they serve.
The post holder will have the benefit of an experienced Lead Physician Associate who works across all 3 sites providing support through a comprehensive induction and orientation programme, clinical supervision, mentorship and regular 1 to 1 sessions to help progress your role and reach your goals.
Our vacancy suits both Primary Care experienced Physician Associates and those who are newly qualified, with the induction process tailored to you.
Main duties of the job
Under supervision of the GP in the practice, the post
holder will provide care for the presenting patient from focused history
taking, clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of care. They
will demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care, including
assessment and diagnostic skills, for patients within the service.
The post
holder will demonstrate critical thinking in the decision-making process. They
will work collaboratively with the healthcare team to meet the needs of the
patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.
The post holder will provide a holistic and clinical
service, with support and supervision of GPs, implementing agreed management
plans and following approved protocols as appropriate.

Provide
care for the presenting patient from initial focused history taking and
clinical assessment through to the diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of
care.
Demonstrate
critical thinking in the clinical decision-making process, including assessment
and diagnostic skills, leading to the delivery of safe care for all patients.
Request,
review and action investigations and their results.
Practice
good record keeping within the patient records.
Develop
clinical judgement in the referral process onward to Secondary Care teams and
Community teams.
Develop
clinical autonomy within your patient caseload across face to face appointments
and telephone appointments.
Participate
in shared learning with the PCN.
Undertake
specialist clinics following appropriate training.
Participate
in CPD and meet the 50 hours required each year and maintain their professional
registration.
Work
collaboratively with the Multidisciplinary healthcare team to meet the needs of
the patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures.
Provide
a holistic and clinical service, with support from GPs as required,
implementing agreed management plans and following approved protocols as appropriate.
Work
to deliver with other members of the practice and Primary Healthcare Team, the
objectives of the Primary Care contract, including the terms of the Quality and
Outcomes Framework.
Attend
regular multi-disciplinary meetings organised by the Practice in order to
discuss the health and social needs of particular patients.
On
a typical day, a PA would be expected to hold their own clinic, carry out some
home visits and consult with patients who present on the day and via booked
appointments.

- BSc level Degree prior to undertaking PA program
- PG Diploma or Masters in Physician Associate Studies from a UK training programme (or equivalent)
- Valid certification of Physician Associate Revalidation Exam (if applicable)
- Full membership at the Faculty of Physician Associates at the RCP (this is a mandatory condition for employment but those with student membership and awaiting to sit National Exam or awaiting results are encouraged to apply)
- Registration with the UK Managed Voluntary Register (FPA MVR) as full or student member
Desirable
- BLS/ILS/PILS/ALS certification
