Job summary

This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity to support young peoples mental health in schools. As an Education Mental Health Practitioner, you will work directly with children and young people experiencing mild to moderate mental health needs, offering practical support to help them understand their emotions, build resilience, and feel more in control of their lives.

You`ll deliver evidence-based interventions for issues like anxiety and low mood, while helping schools take a proactive approach to wellbeing. Alongside your direct work with pupils, you`ll also play a key role in building whole school approaches to emotional health supporting teachers, advising families, and sharing your expertise across settings.

This role is about meaningful relationships, creative problem-solving, and visible impact. No two days are the same, but every day makes a difference. You`ll be part of a friendly and committed team, with regular high-quality supervision, ongoing training, and the space to grow in your role.

Main duties of the job

You care deeply about helping young people feel seen, heard and supported. You stay calm under pressure, communicate clearly, and bring compassion and consistency to your work in fast-paced school environments.

You will need:

  • A recognised qualification as an Education Mental Health Practitioner
  • Experience delivering therapeutic interventions such as CBT or solution-focused work
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and capacity frameworks, including Gillick competence
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in an education or health setting
  • Confidence managing risk and maintaining accurate, timely records
  • Strong communication skills when working with families, schools and professionals
  • The ability to travel between school sites, with access to a vehicle or suitable alternative

You might also bring experience working with vulnerable groups such as looked-after children or those facing emotional or behavioural challenges.
