Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and solution-focused Health and Wellbeing Practitioner to join Compass Elevation  Health and Wellbeing Service in Harrow.

You will hold a caseload of young people; offering a holistic service with an accessible, no wrong door approach. You will take an integrated approach to your work, addressing needs that relate to healthy relationships/sexual health, drug and alcohol use, smoking cessation and any associated risky behaviour. 

Operating on an outreach basis, you will be responsible for delivery of the service within co-locations such as schools, Youth Justice Service and youth clubs. You will be proactive in promoting the service, building effective internal and external relationships, and contributing to outreach events and public health campaigns. You will also support our engagement and participation work, which includes the delivery and development of workshops/teaching sessions and training for professionals.

Working hours will be Monday Friday, 37 hours per week, which will include at least one evening per week and Saturdays on a monthly rota.

Main duties of the job

Holding a relevant qualification in substance misuse/youth work/psychology/counselling/ mental health/social care, you will also:

  • Have experience of working with at risk/vulnerable young people in a community setting
  • Be able to deliver behaviour change support, including group work
  • Be knowledgeable about: safeguarding children, confidentiality, consent and mental capacity, contraception, STIs, and risk-taking behaviours
  • Adopt a flexible approach to work hours and locations

About us

Commissioned by Harrow Council, this a highly innovative service which delivers a range of universal, targeted and specialist health and wellbeing interventions to young people across Tower Hamlets. The evidence-based interventions address young peoples support needs with regards to two strands of service care focused around sexual health and substance use, and any associated risky behaviour, in order to improve health and wellbeing.

  • Relevant qualification in substance misuse/youth work/psychology/counselling/mental health; such as a Diploma in Youth Work, Social work, Psychology or accredited Counselling or equivalent NVQ Level 4 in Children, Young People or families, social care or mental health.

Experience

  • Working with children, young people or adults in a community setting Facilitating group work with children, young people or young adults
  • Inter-agency and multi-disciplinary working
  • Involving children and young people and their families in design, delivery and development of services.
  • Working with at risk or vulnerable groups.

  • Obtaining information about individuals/circumstances/needs and preferences.
