Job summary

Compass is the provider of Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) in education settings in the city of Derby and Derbyshire, and is expanding the service into new areas from January 2024. 

Derby and Derbyshire MHST is an early intervention mental health and emotional wellbeing service. The service delivers evidenced based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health needs.

It is part of the MHST Programme, which has been commissioned following the Transforming Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Care Provision: A Green Paper (2017).  

Do you have lived experience with a mental health and/or mental health services and have an interest in helping shape our service with collaboration of children and young people then read on.

We are delighted to have the opportunity arise for a expert by experience, Mental Health Lived Experience Practitioner.

This role is a real opportunity to help shape the services we provide for children and young people (CYP) with the focus on developing peer support groups for CYP to access, encouraging ownership of the groups through their own knowledge, skills and experience by inspiring co-design and co-delivery.

Main duties of the job

You will need to demonstrate in your application that you have a desire and drive to influence service delivery based on the voice of the child.

You will have lived experience of mental health challenges and/or services within childrens mental health services.

You will play an integral role in supporting, developing and embedding co-production principles alongside the specialist team and wider MHSTs.

Applicants must have excellent communication skills and be able to form positive working relationships with children, young people, families, colleagues and other professionals.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths.
  • Relevant professional qualification at level 2 or above

Desirable

  • Level 3 in health & social care or equivalent experience.
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid trained.

Experience

Essential

  • Lived experience of mental health challenges and/or accessing services
  • An ability to form positive working relationships with children, young people, families, colleagues and other professionals.
  • Experience of working as part of a team and on your own initiative.

Desirable

  • Experience of working or volunteering with people experiencing poor mental health.
  • Experience of working with children, young people their families and schools.
  • Experience of designing and co-delivering participation groups.

Additional Criteria

  • Understanding of the Data Protection legislation and guidance.
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues relating to children, young people and vulnerable adults at risk legislation and guidance.
  • Understanding of Equality and Diversity legislation and guidance.
  • An understanding of child development.
  • Knowledge of technology and social media to reach children and young people in all domains of communication.
  • Desire and drive to influence service delivery based on the voice of the child
  • Ability and willingness to adopt a flexible approach to working outside normal office hours or at different venues on occasion.
  • Able to undertake the demands of the post with reasonable adjustments where required.
  • Handling sensitive and confidential information and maintaining discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to meet the travel requirements of the role including a driving licence.
  • Must be willing and commitment to undertake training
