Compass is the provider of Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) in education settings in the city of Derby and Derbyshire, and is expanding the service into new areas from January 2024.
If you have a keen interest in and enthusiasm for a career in CYPF early intervention mental health and emotional wellbeing services this could be the first step; undertaking specialist training in low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy whilst working in practice to deliver positive outcomes with CYPF in a supportive, innovative and committed team.
Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioners will be undertaking a year in supported part-time study at University of Derby, whilst developing skills and building confidence in mental health practice within our team and supporting schools to enhance the approach to emotional wellbeing in the school community.
You will have to demonstrate in your application that you have the ability to study at degree level or have an equivalent level of relevant experience. Experience of working with children and young people and an understanding of the educational system in England is desirable.
Main duties of the job
You will deliver short term low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) informed interventions for children and young people aged 5 -19 years with anxiety, low mood, common challenging behaviours, family and peer relationship difficulties, difficulty adjusting to change or managing emotions in educational settings. Trainee EMHPs will also work with educational staff to build on and develop evidenced-based Whole School Approaches.
Trainee EMHPs must undertake a Post Graduate Diploma in Mental Health Practice in Education Settings, a degree Level 7 qualification at University of Derby commencing January 2024. During term time you will be required to undertake training three days per week whilst working within the team two days per week developing the skills and enhancing the knowledge gained in training, working under supervision with children, young people, families and in education settings.
On successful completion of training, Trainee EMHPs will be equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge and capabilities and work as a qualified EMHP as autonomous and responsible practitioners within their scope of practice. Alongside education colleagues, delivering schools overarching approach to providing mental health and wellbeing support for children and young people.
