Job summary
The role of the Supervising Practitioner is to deliver short term low intensity interventions for children and young people aged 5 -25 years with anxiety, low mood, common challenging behaviours, family and peer relationship difficulties, difficulty adjusting to change and transition or difficulty managing emotions in educational settings and to provide supervision to others in the team in this work.
Supervising Practitioners will also work with Designated Mental Health Leads and other educational staff to build on and develop evidenced-based Whole School Approaches.
Working hours Mon Fri, 37 hours per week. This role is advertised on a full-time basis but flexibility for part time working can be accommodated please specify preferred hours of work at application.
Applicants must have excellent communication skills and be able to network with other agencies such as Local Authority, NHS, Public Health, Education Staff, School Nursing, and CAMHS. Applicants will ideally have experience of providing clinical supervision.
Main duties of the job
You will need to demonstrate in your application that you have the ability to study at degree level and have a core professional qualification relevant to mental health, for example nursing with specialism in mental health or learning disability, cognitive behavioural therapy, post graduate diploma in mental health practice in education settings (EMHP) CYP IAPT or equivalent. You should also have 2 years post graduate experience of working with children and young people and an understanding of the principles and practice of CBT and supervision.
Candidates will either have a Post Graduate Certificate in Supervision or ability and willingness to attain PG Cert. within the first year of employment.
You will be knowledgeable and experienced in mental health problems and psychiatric disorders with children and young people with special educational needs. You will have significant experience in completing comprehensive mental health assessments including risk assessments where required. Providing practice supervision and support within the MHST, you will provide specialist care directly to children and young people and families as well as providing clinical and case supervision to Mental Health Practitioners working in the dedicated SEN settings. Support, advice and consultation to families/carers and other professionals involved in the life of the child/young person will also form part of the role.
