Main duties of the job

B. JOB SUMMARY
The postholder will work with the Clinical Director and the senior leadership team to provide clinical leadership of the Brandon Centres long-established Counselling and Psychotherapy Service. They will supervise other child and adult Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic Psychotherapists, and if appropriate to their training, they will manage and supervise Child & Adolescent Psychotherapists in doctoral training on placement at the Brandon Centre. They may also provide ad-hoc supervision to other clinicians in the psychotherapy service (e.g. Clinical Psychologists) or as part of their continuing professional development. As a senior member of the psychotherapy service, their work will include generic and specialist clinical assessments and treatments of young people including brief treatments (up to 16 sessions) and some longer-term treatments (up to 1 year), clinical supervision, and consultation to practitioners both within and outside the Brandon Centre. The post holder will help to co-chair, organise and/or facilitate parts of the team meetings. They will support the wider work of the team in relation to supervision, consultation, and other developments in clinical and training activity.
C. BRANDON CENTRE OVERVIEW
The principal objective of Brandon Centre is to provide a professional, accessible, and flexible service, which responds to the psychological needs of young people under 25 years and their families.
The services we provide are:
- Counselling & Psychotherapy Services for Young People
- Systemic Integrative Treatment for Families
- Clinical Training and Consultancy and Consultancy for Professionals
- Parenting Programmes for parents of primary school-aged and secondary school-aged children with behavioural and emotional difficulties.
- Enhanced Health Living Childhood Obesity Service
- Therapeutic work in the community such as supporting the Arsenal Girls Kicks programme and our consortium collaboration with The Hive Youth Hub.
D. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical
The postholder will undertake clinical assessments and treatments of young people. They will be expected to make a significant contribution to the clinical work of the service. The work is highly specialised and is based on the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data.
Clinical assessment and management of risk, including safeguarding risks, for their cases, as well as those of supervisees. The clinical workload will be agreed upon with the Clinical Director.
They will help chair parts of the team meeting along with other senior members of the psychotherapy service.
To attend weekly team meetings, co-facilitate case discussions, and support with organising and/or facilitating the second part of the team meeting (CPD slot; Tuesdays 12:30-1:30).
To provide an efficient and effective psychotherapy assessment and treatment service for young people with moderate to severe mental health problems.
To arrange reviews as required, to communicate effectively with the young person, their family and their network where appropriate, and to monitor their progress.
To liaise with the referring agent and network around young people for their cases, or in supporting the work of other members of the team. This may entail liaison with other services and offering psychoanalytically informed guidance to parents/carers and service and support networks.
To be responsible for working within the appropriate safeguarding guidelines, for their cases, and the provision of appropriate advice in supervision and consultation. This includes reporting to and liaising with multi-disciplinary service and external agency staff (e.g. Children's Social Services, CAMHS, Adult Mental Health Services).
To be responsible for continually monitoring and evaluating risk to/from young people in their caseload and during supervision/consultation discussions. This may be due to child protection concerns, deliberate self-harm or other risky behaviour (e.g. running away, substance misuse, causing harm to others).
To formulate and devise psychotherapeutic treatment and management plans for referred clients, and to provide psychotherapeutic treatment, using a range of specialist psychoanalytic methods and techniques appropriate to the service.
To provide reports on young people to referrers and other outside agencies.
To participate in regular reviews and ongoing discussions of cases in treatment with other members of the multidisciplinary team and, where appropriate, coordinate and organise network meetings with professional members of other agencies.
To maintain high standards of clinical record keeping including written case notes, electronic data entry and report writing, and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance following professional codes of practice, Brandon Centre policies and procedures.
To be responsible for applying a range of theoretical and practical knowledge acquired over a significant period (e.g. developments in psychoanalysis, child and adolescent development, attachment theory, neurobiology, systems theory, social learning theory, adult psychopathology, group work).
To engage in regular clinical and service-related supervision. Some professional supervision may be provided by an external supervisor if appropriate.

To contribute to the supervision and teaching of members of the psychotherapy service, maintaining the standards of psychotherapy throughout the Brandon Centre.
