Job summary

Qualified Nursing Associate - In Patient Unit (IPU)

Hours: Part time 32.5 hours a week

Pro-rata Salary: £24,700 based on 32.5 hours a week (£28,500 FTE)

We have an exciting opportunity to join our In Patient Unit team, as a Qualified Nursing Associate with a passion for palliative care. If you want the time to give compassionate patient centred care as part of a small multidisciplinary team this could be the role for you.

Main duties of the job

With the support and direction of the Registered Nurse, this person will be responsible for providing holistic nursing care to our patients and to act as a role model and mentor to colleagues and patient care volunteers.You must be able to communicate effectively with our patients, relatives and the whole multidisciplinary team.

Working with the palliative / end of life multidisciplinary teams within the hospice to provide a coordinated and comprehensive service to patients, their families and carers. This will be achieved through the provision of specialist palliative care interventions based on a comprehensive patient centred assessment, agreement of goal focused care planning, education and support to patients, families and carers.

Job responsibilities

The successful candidate is required to have previous experience working within a hospital/hospice or other care environment, preferably with palliative, end of life care or community experience. In addition, it is essential to have achieved level 3/4 or above NVQ (or equivalent) in Health or Health and Social Care or be working towards an award.

Understand and act in accordance with the Code: Professional standards of practice and behaviour for nurses, midwives, and nursing associates, and fulfil all registration requirements.

Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of a Registered Nurse (or other registered care professional dependent on setting) with a focus on promoting health and independence.

Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual

Carry out specific delegated clinical and care tasks and responsibilities to a high standard and competency, under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse or other registered care professionals dependent on setting.

Work with a mentor to take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace.

Administer medicines in line with the HEE/ NMC Guidance and hospice Medicines Management policy.

Develop the skills and ability to work without direct supervision, at times delivering care independently in line with the individuals defined plan of care, within the parameters of practice of the Nursing Associate role, accessing clinical and care advice when needed Key Tasks.

To develop understanding of all elements of the nursing process and be able to assist the registered Nurse in the ongoing assessment, planning and evaluation of care.

Support individuals with all aspects of care including daily living, providing person centred care and promoting health and independence.

Perform and record clinical observations including blood pressure, temperature, respirations and pulse.

Undertake clinical tasks when deemed competent to do so.

Demonstrate the ability to keep complete, clear, accurate and timely records.
