Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for First Contact Physiotherapist within the organisation, who must be available to work on a full-time basis with flexibility when required to work across sites within PCNs. Practices across Waltham Forest have come to work collaboratively as Primary Care Networks (PCNs), pooling their resources and workforce to provide improved and integrated services for their patients. PCNs typically consist of 30,000-50,000 patients

Main duties of the job

Job responsibilities

Waltham Forest Federated GP Network are supporting the Primary Care Networks established across the borough to recruit First Contact Physiotherapist

The First Contact Physiotherapist (FCP) will have advanced skills to assess, diagnose, treat and manage musculoskeletal (MSK) problems and undifferentiated conditions. This will involve seeing patients, without prior contact with their GP, to establish a rapid and accurate diagnosis and management plan, thus streamlining pathways of care. They can work independently and do not require supervision, thus helping to release workload currently undertaken by GPs. Patients can either self-refer or be referred by the networks members. The FCP will have a key role in supporting delivery of the new Network Contract DES Service specifications.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc/Grad Dip in Physiotherapy.
  • A minimum of one years post qualification experience.
  • HCPC Registration.
  • CPD pertaining to Primary Care and MSK management

Desirable

  • MSc or MSc modules for advanced practice.
  • Extended Scope competencies around bloods, imaging and prescribing.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in Primary care and first contact roles.
  • Expert clinical reasoning skills.
  • Proven multi-disciplinary working.
  • Clinical experience of triage and care planning.

Desirable

  • Experience as Senior Physiotherapist working in autonomous MSK role.
  • Evidence of clinical leadership.
  • Evidence of research activity or skills.
  • Experience of computer based clinical systems, EMIS Web.
