Job summary

Service Description

The Schools and Colleges Early Support Service (SCESS) has been developed in partnership with the Anna Freud Centre (AFC) and co-produced with young people, parents/carers, and school staff. The aim of the service is to provide free, evidence-based mental health support to school- and college-aged young people, staff, and parents/carers through the delivery of 1:1 guided self-help sessions and group support. The service will be provided remotely via phone or video call.

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist with a background in research and experience of working within a children and young people to work within a multi-disciplinary wellbeing advice services team to increase and improve emotional and mental health provision within educational settings for 518-year-olds Nationally as well as in the West London CCG area.

This post will enable the post-holder to develop a wide range of clinical, project coordination and evaluation skills. The position will suit an individual who is self-motivated, an excellent communicator and data competent, with an interest in quality improvement, an understanding of child development and mental health, and a passion to support services for children, young people and their families.

You will also work closely with families, as well as colleagues and partners in the Local Authority, Anna Freud Centre, CAMHS, educational settings where interventions are being delivered and other relevant mental health providers.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects.
  • To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programs.
  • Routinely measure clinical outcomes, in line with the CYP-IAPT program.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all training and clinical activity in line with both health and education service protocols and use these records and outcome data to inform decision-making.
  • Complete all requirements relating to data collection and report clinical outcomes and service access data into the digital patient record system, CYP IAPTUS.
  • Communicate efficiently and effectively with young people, parents/carers, and school staff, both on the telephone and via video calls.
  • To deliver 1:1 guided self-help sessions and group support.
  • To support the development and delivery of virtual workshops.
  • Competent ability to identify risk and seek support in line with the service.
  • Complete all requirements relating to data collection and outcome measurements within the service.
  • Keep coherent records of all therapeutic activity in line with service protocols.
  • Attend multi-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings relating to referrals or children and young people in treatment, where appropriate, both for personal educational benefit in discussion with supervisors, and to provide direct assistance.
  • Work in collaboration with school staff, parents, children, young people, and the wider community to enhance and broaden access to mental health services.

Training and Supervision

  • Receive line management from HFEH Mind and access supervision from Anna Freud Centre.
  • Be committed to ongoing personal and professional development.
  • Undertake relevant training, in particular Anna Freud Mandatory Training and Safeguarding.
  • Support other team members in provision of a quality service.

Evaluation

  • To support the work of the Business support Administrator and Head of Youth Services on the analysis of MHSTs data, both for routine reporting and for the purposes of service evaluation, research, and service improvement
  • To work with Team Leads and head of service to implement the evaluation framework to support exploring the feasibility and impact of non-clinical and clinical delivery.
  • To work with the Business Support Administrator, Team Leads and senior clinicians to acquire the necessary statistical and research skills to assist in the analysis and modelling of large-scale data sets

Communications

  • To work closely with the HFEH MINDs staff leading on communications and engagement to support the drafting and editing of clinically robust and evidence-based content, such as best practice tips, booklets, case studies, videos, pod casts and training materials for wellbeing advice team and SCESS programme.
  • Support Whole School Approach Staff Wellbeing advisor and Service user participation lead to develop surveys and other ways of collecting information about the interests of school staff children and young people, parents/carers and service users, to inform content development and service delivery.
