Job summary

The purpose of the My Safe Space (MSS) is to help alleviate mental health and wellbeing during heightened arousal or crisis through supportive therapeutic provision within the local community facilitated by the MSS team. As a Team Manager, you will be a core member of the MSS team working with CYP’s between the ages of 5 - 18 years old who present or are referred to MSS.

This MSS Team Manger role would suit a Health Care Professional (HCP) like a Nurse (RMN, RLDN), Social Worker (SW), Occupational Therapist (OT) with some formal training in CBT/DBT/ interventions, experience of working within a multi-disciplinary CYP MH team with experience in managing CYP’s presenting in a MH crisis/acute MH presentations with a special interest in developing their crisis response therapeutic practice and working creatively on effective evidence based de-escalation in the community.

The MSS will mainly deliver containing short-term support in crisis using evidence based therapeutic treatment modalities on- site. There will also be ongoing support for these CYP facilitated through liaison with HFEH Mind’s in-house social prescribing services to ensure a seamless onward transition to self-management, relevant specialist Community Mental Health services, Social Care or other relevant partner agencies where required.

Main duties of the job

The MSS Team Manager role is a core part of the HFEH Mind Complex Needs Hub providing flexible and evidence-based episodes of crisis care and treatment to young people aged 5 - 18 presenting to My Safe Space (MSS). This role will include having an overview and taking the lead in all mental health support and psychoeducation facilitated by the MSS for CYP’s who are experiencing acute crisis. The MSS Team Manager will work in partnership with and other agency leads to formulate strategies to alleviate MH Wellbeing in acute crisis using short term evidence based therapeutic treatment modalities grounded in psychosocial models of care.

The aim of the service is to provide psychosocial, holistic support in crisis to help de-escalate crisis presentations, problem solve difficult circumstances, guide MH self-management and subsequently alleviate MH wellbeing for all CYP’s aged 5-18 accessing the service.

Job responsibilities

  • Having both therapeutic and operational oversight as the lead of the multi-disciplinary MSS team assessing clinical skills required to deliver a safe and high-quality service by identifying gaps and plans to address these issues
  • Ensuring consistent high standards of care and containment to service users attending the hub including risk reduction and instigating remedial action where required.
  • Overseeing all clinical interventions utilised in the MSS and lead all areas of strategy and service development with direct and indirect supervision of the service development manager and youth services director.
  • Establishing and maintaining evidence-based practice including the development of relevant evidence-based treatments within the MSS service context
  • Providing appraisals, clinical and management supervision to senior members of MSS MDT; establishing and facilitating responsive case consultation and mentoring for all members of the Team.

  • Lead on coordinating and communicating service delivery with relevant stakeholders, promoting the active involvement of children, young people and their families in planning and implementing care delivery.
