Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist with a background in research and experience of working within a children and young people to work within a multi-disciplinary Mental Health Support Team (MHST) to increase and improve emotional and mental health provision within educational settings for 518-year-olds in the West London CCG area.

Main duties of the job

This post will enable the post-holder to develop a wide range of clinical, project coordination and evaluation skills. The position will suit an individual who is self-motivated, an excellent communicator and data competent, with an interest in quality improvement, an understanding of child development and mental health, and a passion to support services for children, young people and their families.

You will also work closely with families, as well as colleagues and partners in the Local Authority, CAMHS, educational settings where interventions are being delivered and other relevant mental health providers.

Job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • To assist in the design and implementation of audit and research projects.
  • To undertake data collection, analysis, the production of reports and summaries, using IT and statistical programs.
  • Routinely measure clinical outcomes, in line with the CYP-IAPT program.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all training and clinical activity in line with both health and education service protocols and use these records and outcome data to inform decision-making.
  • Complete all requirements relating to data collection and report clinical outcomes and service access data into the digital patient record system, CYP IAPTUS.
  • To assist in the formulation and delivery low-intensity psychological treatments based on evidence-based literature and research to support best practice in clinical work. Interventions may include guided self-help, and treatment might be individual or in psychoeducational groups. This work includes delivery face to face, virtual and telephone.
  • Signpost referrals for children and young people with more complex needs to the relevant service.
  • To receive regular line management for all clinical and non-clinical work related to the service, balancing the needs of both clinical and non-clinical work, administration, data entry and CPD.
  • Engage in robust managerial and clinical supervision, identifying the scope of practice of the individual post-holder within the role, and working safely within that scope.
  • Attend multi-disciplinary and multi-agency meetings relating to referrals or children and young people in treatment, where appropriate, both for personal educational benefit in discussion with supervisors, and to provide direct assistance.
  • Work in collaboration with school staff, parents, children, young people, and the wider community to enhance and broaden access to mental health services.

Evaluation

  • To support the work of the Business support Administrator and Head of Youth Services on the analysis of MHSTs data, both for routine reporting and for the purposes of service evaluation, research, and service improvement.
  • To work with Team Leads and head of service to implement the evaluation framework to support exploring the feasibility and impact of non-clinical and clinical delivery.
  • To work with the Business Support Administrator, Team Leads and senior clinicians to acquire the necessary statistical and research skills to assist in the analysis and modelling of large-scale data sets

Communications

  • To work closely with the HFEH MINDs staff leading on communications and engagement to support the drafting and editing of clinically robust and evidence-based content, such as best practice tips, booklets, case studies, videos, pod casts and training materials for MHST.
  • To support the development of accessible and user-friendly content and resources for parents/carers accessing our website and online digital platform (MY-MIND TV).
  • Support Whole School Approach Staff Wellbeing advisor and Service user participation lead to develop surveys and other ways of collecting information about the interests of school staff children and young people, parents/carers and service users, to inform content development and service delivery.

  • Understanding of the impact of social inequalities and how this relates to mental health
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of the key social economic and systemic factors that contribute to poor mental health of children, young people, and parents / careers from Black, Asian and other Ethic Minority groups
  • Understanding of the importance of maintaining confidentiality
  • Experience of literature reviews, data collection and analysis
  • Knowledge of mental health and/or social care services

Qualifications

  • An undergraduate Psychology degree (or equivalent) that confers British Psychological Societys Graduate Basis for Chartered membership (GBC).
