Job summary

Rotherham Hospice is seeking two skilled and reliable Maintenance Operatives to join our team working 37.5 hours per week on a 4 on 4 off basis covering 7 days per week.

Reporting to the Head of Facilities, the Maintenance Operative will be responsible for performing a variety of maintenance tasks at the hospice building and its hospice shops.

This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the safety, functionality, and aesthetics of the hospice facilities to support the delivery of high-quality care and services to patients and their families.

Main duties of the job

Building Maintenance:

  • Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance, to ensure the safety and functionality of the hospice building.
  • Perform minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, heating, and ventilation systems as needed, following established procedures and safety guidelines.

Grounds Maintenance:

  • Maintain the exterior grounds of the hospice building, including landscaping, gardening, and general upkeep of outdoor areas.
  • Clear pathways, parking areas, and entrances of debris, snow, and ice during inclement weather to ensure safe access for staff, patients, and visitors.

Hospice Shop Maintenance:

  • Perform maintenance tasks at the hospice shops, including repairs to fixtures, fittings, and equipment, to ensure a safe and pleasant shopping environment for customers.
  • Assist with minor renovations, painting, and decorating as needed to maintain the appearance and functionality of the shops.

Health and Safety Compliance:

  • Adhere to health and safety regulations and procedures at all times, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and guidelines.

Emergency Response:

  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests and incidents outside of regular working hours as needed, providing timely and effective solutions to resolve issues and minimise disruption to hospice operations.

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and equipment maintenance schedules.

At Rotherham Hospice, we provide exceptional care for all those affected by terminal illness and are the only adult hospice in Rotherham for the people of Rotherham and surrounding villages.

We began offering Day Hospice services in 1994, and have grown over the years to now provide a 14 bed Inpatient Unit alongside our Hospice Community Team who provide care in the community. Our dedicated team of staff and volunteers work together to provide palliative care that incorporates psychological, physical, social and spiritual support to help patients and their families achieve the very best quality of life, both at home and in the Hospice.
