Job summary

The Senior Nurse Manager has full operational authority for one or more teams of Registered Nurses, Health Care Supervisors and Assistants and Allied Health Professionals. As clinical lead the Senior Nurse Manager drives nursing standards to meet residents personal, medical and rehabilitative needs, and ensure an effective team of nursing staff who deliver person-centric care.

Main duties of the job

The Senior Nurse manager will operationally based and very hands on. Key elements of the role will be the management and support of the nursing, therapies and care teams.

The role will provide the clinical expertsie in the relationship between care and therapies and the Senior Leadership Team.

About us

The organisation is a medium sized nursing care home looking after Veterans and others with a range of conditions including ABI, Stroke, Neuro and Cognitive disabilities/difficulties. Currently the age range of our residents is mid twenties to just over a hundred.

The building is currently registered for 60 residents.

To take responsibility of all resident focussed issues and clinical matters ensuring adequate staffing.

To deputise in the absence of the Registered Manager.

To be responsible for ensuring the operational delivery of a high quality clinical multidisciplinary (MDT) service.

To be accountable for the effective clinical management of residents, ensuring that the needs of the residents are placed at the centre of care delivery.

To undertake assessments of prospective residents during admissions.

Planning admission of new residents with Nursing Team/ Placements Officer.

To assist in liaising with funding authorities regarding the placement of prospective residents.

To ensure that each resident receives care appropriate to their individual needs.

Ensure the clinical, physical, and psychological needs of residents is met.

Work in close partnership with the Senior Nursing Team to translate CQC standards into effective work-based outcomes.

Administer medicines within NMC and Care for Veterans guidelines and ensure that safe practice is observed.

Ensure that safeguarding procedures are followed.

Ensure that the skill mix of staff on the wing is appropriate to the clinical needs.

Participate in the recruitment and selection of new staff and ensure that the induction period provided is monitored, reviewed and documented.

Maintain effective communication with the team.

Initiate an MDT meeting for new residents.

Ensure that team members learn from reflective practice so that continuous improvement in evidence-based care is achieved.

Ensure the completion of assessment and re-assessment documentation e.g. RCN, Fast Track and Resident check lists.

Provide specialist expertise in the delivery of care for residents.

Ensure that the team adheres to high standards of record keeping, ensuring care plans are maintained in a timely, objective and non-contentious manner.

Ensure the nursing team delivers care within residents rehabilitation assessment plan, and work in partnership with members of the multi-disciplinary team to identify the rehabilitation needs and SMART goals.

In partnership with the Care for Veterans Chaplain oversee a holistic approach to end-of-life care.

Lead on the development of resident care by participating in standard setting.

Coach, mentor and assess student nurses.

Ensure that all staff attend mandatory training within prescribed timescales.

Deliver formal training as a trainer, holding the appropriate qualification

Participate in an on-call rota, specialist advice to colleagues out of hours.

Ensure that statutory requirements are met regarding Health and Safety at work and all other relevant policies are adhered to for residents, visitors and staff.
