Job summary

The Living Well Lead is responsible for the strategic leadership and operational management of the Bury Hospice Living Well Hub, Bereavement & Family Support Service, and Complementary Therapy Service.

Main duties of the job

This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care and support to individuals affected by life-limiting illnesses, including patients, families (including children), and carers, both pre- and post-bereavement. The focus is on promoting independence, enhancing quality of life, and providing emotional and psychological support through a range of therapeutic interventions and services. The Living Well Lead will champion a rehabilitative approach, working collaboratively with staff and volunteers to deliver person-centred care.

Leadership & Management:

  • Provide strategic leadership and operational management for the Living Well Hub, Bereavement & Family Support Service, and Complementary Therapy Service.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of these services, ensuring alignment with best practices and benchmarks within palliative care.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, including recruitment, supervision, training, and performance management of staff and volunteers.
  • Manage student counsellor placements.
  • Monitor service performance, including workloads, outcomes, and patient satisfaction, and implement improvements as needed.
  • Manage budgets and resources effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Represent the services at relevant meetings and forums, both internally and externally.
  • Contribute to the Hospice's strategic planning and development.

Clinical Practice & Service Delivery:

  • Provide clinical leadership and champion a rehabilitative approach within all support interventions.
  • Manage a complex bereavement caseload, providing counselling, therapy, and support to individuals and families.
  • Develop and deliver accessible information and resources for carers and the bereaved.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all patient/carer interactions.
  • Deliver direct clinical care, including individual, group, and family therapy, as appropriate.
  • Act as an advocate for patients and families, supporting informed decision-making.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs for Hospice staff and volunteers on bereavement, death and dying, loss and change, grief, and psychological matters.
  • Oversee the provision of a range of psychological therapies and support options, including counselling, complementary therapies, and digital support.
  • Ensure the service offers diverse modalities (on-site and digital support), and both group and individual sessions.
