Job summary
Newcastle GP Services (NGPS) is an ambitious and innovative membership organisation, providing support to 27 GP Practices across Newcastle. A small, friendly and professional team based in Gosforth, we deliver a range of services, including GP cover across Urgent Treatment Centres, mobile outreach clinics, Enhanced Access, managing a primary care staff bank, as well as providing financial and administrative assistance to five of the seven Primary Care Networks (PCNs) in the city. Our mission is to ensure that the voice of Newcastle Primary Care is heard, and that we work on behalf of our members to deliver services at the right scale.
As a member of our team, you will be provided support to ensure you are able to deliver your responsibilities to the best of your capability as well as be provided opportunities for development by welcoming ideas for service improvement.
The UTCs (Urgent Treatment Centres) are run as a Newcastle Alliance with NGPS, NUTH, NEAS and Totally. NGPS are responsible for providing GP cover into Molineux Street, Ponteland Road and Westgate Road UTC (currently running from Molineux Street).
Main duties of the job
The Clinical Governance Lead will provide support to the Urgent Care Service. This role will contribute to robust governance arrangements within the organisation to ensure our GPs working in the local Urgent Care Service are performing their role according to what is required to deliver a safe and efficient service and ensure the organisation is delivering a GP workforce that helps them work to meet contractual requirements. The postholder will enhance the quality of services and support future service development, including the following duties:
- Annual notes audit and review
- Overview of performance management of GPs
- Provide supervision and professional oversight of the work of all clinicians in the UTC
- Oversight of the recruitment/interviewing processes
- Dealing with clinical complaints
- Liaising with locums to resolve issues
- Attending meetings with NuTH
- Supporting Urgent Care Service Delivery Manager with the above
- Be proactive in the planning of any new service
- Attend meetings with Urgent Care stakeholders
- To research examples of good practice and innovation in relation to urgent care, recommending if and how these can be applied by NGPS GPs
- To coordinate activity relating to risk management of GPs working in Urgent Care Services organisation.
- Development and delivery of training for bank GPs
