This is a tremendous opportunity to become part of, and lead, the outstanding team that is NGPS. Newcastle GP Services Ltd is the GP Federation for Newcastle-upon-Tyne, delivering primary care services to over 300,000 citizens of one of Britain's most vibrant cities.

As Chief Executive Officer of NGPS, you will have the vision and dynamism to successfully win and maintain contracts and a strong history of delivery and engagement with key stakeholders. You will share our total commitment to service quality.

Main duties of the job

NGPS is lucky enough to have an engaged and cohesive board of directors who in turn head the 7 Primary Care Networks of Newcastle. The CEO engages with, supports and guides the board of NGPS to deliver on the objectives of its member practices and is the leader of a small but talented team. 

In addition, the role of CEO with NGPS brings with it distinctive directorial input as a Joint Director of Collaborative Newcastle – an innovative Health and Social care collaborative delivering tangible support to those whom we serve.

About us

Established in 2014, Newcastle GP Services Ltd core work seeks to support our practices (our membership and MOU arrangements cover all practices and PCNs in the City) covering the delivery of urgent and extended access, Primary Care Networks corporate services, covid response (including hot services and vaccinations), running practices, developing at scale workforce transformation and other clinical services. Our turnover, team and profile have grown substantially in the last two years. 

NGPS works collaboratively with health and social sector commissioners, partners and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of the highest standards in primary care for patients, their families and carers. Our ongoing success is based on an outward facing collaborative approach and a commitment to partnership working.

This vacancy arises out from the retirement of the existing CEO, Christian Townend RRC.

Principal Responsibilities

The CEO’s leadership role entails being ultimately responsible for all day-to-day management decisions and for implementing the federations long and short term plans. The CEO acts as a direct liaison between the Directors and employees of the federation. The CEO also communicates on behalf of the federation to shareholders, employees, the commissioner and other stakeholders, patients and the public.

The Directors have delegated the responsibility to the CEO to manage the overall operations of the federation, including new business development, engagement, communications, and logistics.

The CEO develops strategies to meet the needs of member practices, employees and patients and communicates with partners internal and external to the federation to establish and influence the policies, products, and strategies that will help it move forward with a view to creating shareholder and customer value.
