Job summary

The role of the Clinical Education Specialist (CES) is to be the locality link into the Greater Manchester Training Hub (GMTH). The aim of the role is to build relationships within the specified locality and to provide all information regarding training

Main duties of the job

The CES will be the lead nursing representative for education at local, regional, and national meetings. The post holder will represent their locality of the training hub, ensuring that national quality standards are met within practice placements to provide student experience of the highest quality, and will include developing new and auditing existing clinical learning environments.

Job responsibilities

The post holder must have the ability to identify trends in work-based learning and work in partnership with managers and staff to ensure the learning needs of students are met and will include the use of e-learning.

The CES will ensure that learning opportunities are maximised in the workplace for all staff by evaluating training and development programmes and implementing changes reflective of evidence gathered.

The CES will identify and promote opportunities for partnership working in the field of education and development across a range of professional groups and agencies, including HEIs, Open University, Royal College of Nursing (RCN), Colleges of Further Education etc, including arranging and supporting practice placements to Physician Associates, Paramedics, Nursing students and other Allied Health Professionals.

The CES will demonstrate the ability to build effective working relationships with staff and colleagues in supporting learning to include representing the training hub at locality steering groups and attending any other locality meetings to advise on learning opportunities and keep up to date on service developments.

The CES will evaluate partnership working as a result of both formal and informal feedback, identifying areas for improvements as necessary, for example reviewing and revising the Access to Nursing induction programme.as part of Service Improvement, supporting staff, applying appropriate improvement methodologies and presenting the results to their teams.

The CES will assess the need for increased participation in education activities whilst ensuring quality of healthcare provision by the Nursing workforce.

The CES will recognise the need for and work to actively increase the availability of practice placements whilst ensuring a consistency in the quality of placements available for the training and educating of AHPs within Primary Care in Greater Manchester.

The CES will be instrumental in influencing service heads and practice educators to continue to offer placements in times of great demands on clinicians and services, encouraging them to overcome barriers such as lack of funding, time, and space for students.

The post holder will liaise with HEIs regarding practice placement issues including discussing student performance with personal tutors, mentors and line managers, helping to solve problems by negotiating actions to be taken in cases of underperformance.

Develop and maintain communication networks and close working relationships with directors, managers, mentors, and HEIs, including group discussions and one-to one meetings about providing and enhancing learning opportunities for students, identifying, and establishing electronic forums for information exchange.

Present information using methods appropriate to the audience, delivering the subject and the outcomes required to include production of information and statistics required for the audit data for practice placement standards.

Provide pastoral care and support to students on clinical placement, supporting and reassuring distressed students on a wide range of personal and professional issues.

Responsibility to ensure that all training and development programmes for nursing staff are of a high standard and meet the identified development needs of participants.

Manage time effectively to achieve required outcomes within limit constraints of projects.

High degree of autonomy and the ability to manage own workload.
