Job title: Night Registered Nurse (Bank)
Location: Peninsula Heart Clinic, University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust, Derriford Hospital, Derriford Road, Plymouth, PL6 8DH
Reports to: General Manager & Cardiac Matron
Contract: bank
Pay: £16.35 - £19.91 depending on experience, plus 30% unsocial hours payment
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
CLINICAL
To promote best quality service delivery care to patients.
To work unsupervised in accordance with national and local policies.
Be responsible for the welfare of patients in your care.
To be responsible for the assessment of care needs, the development of care plans, the implementation and evaluation of these care plans.
To carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision.
To work as part of a multi- disciplinary team.
Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct (2002).
Adhere to the principles of Clinical Governance including teamwork, communication.
To demonstrate leadership, systems awareness, and ownership to provide the highest quality patient care.
Formulate, deliver, and evaluate care plans designed to meet the specific individual needs of patients.
Communicate effectively with all disciplines involved in planning of patient care.
Participate as directed in audit.
Report accidents/untoward occurrences and complaints to the Senior Nurse on duty.
Observe confidentiality of information and maintain comprehensive, contemporaneous records in line with policies and guidance such as NMC Guidelines for records and records keeping (2002).
Take responsibility for personal development and education, including statutory, mandatory, and in-service training.
Maintain confidentiality of patients and colleagues.
Maintain a safe work environment.
Comply with infection control policies and procedures.
Treat all patients with kindness and respect.
MANAGERIAL
To lead care management and delivery.
To share professionalism and clinical expertise with all members of the multi -disciplinary team.
Ensure the provision of a high standard of care to all service users.
To work within the framework of the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
To act as a role model for junior staff.
To maintain own professional practice and have knowledge of new developments and concepts including the Knowledge & Skills framework.
To be aware of relevant nursing research and promote and participate in research initiatives.
Ensure adherence to policies, guidelines, and directives at all times.
To be guided by NMC directives e.g., Administration of Medicines, Exercising Accountability, Scope of Professional Practice, Guidelines for Record Keeping.
To maintain a high level of competent practice within the Scope of Professional Practice.
Ensure complete and accurate documentation of all clinical care provided in the department.
Assess workloads and be aware of changing situations and act accordingly.
Ensure compliance with all local and national policies.
Participate in audit where appropriate.
Complete all patient documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
Share professionalism and expertise with the multi-disciplinary team.
Deliver care in accordance with local policies.
Lead on care management for patients.
Assist with pre-assessment clinics when required.
EDUCATIONAL
Participate in relevant induction programmes for new staff.
To participate in educational programmes for own professional development, including (but not limited to) mandatory training in a) Fire safety b) Basic life support c) Moving and handling.
To participate in ongoing teaching programmes and staff development.
To act as an educational resource for others.
To encourage all staff to maintain their own professional practice and keep abreast of current developments and research.
To liaise with managers to ensure that educational needs are met. To ensure that members of staff are conversant with and adhere to the following: a) Fire safety b) Basic life support c) Moving and handling
Ensure that all members of staff are conversant with and adhere to a) Policies and procedures, local, regional and national b) Correct use of equipment c) Clinical guidelines.
To ensure own training needs are met and maintain a development structure that will foster best practice.
Attend any specific clinical training that ensures clinical competency is maintained.
Complete reports and records as required by managers e.g., incidents/accidents.
Deal with complaints in accordance with local and Trust policy.
