Job summary

The Stratford Primary Care Network is looking for 3 General Practice assistants.

Hours: 37.5 per week - full time.

Salary: from £23,871

Main duties of the job

The GPA will support General Practices and nursing teams smooth running of clinics by performing the more routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf the GP/ Nurse freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications. Due to the geography and nature of the role a clean UK driving licence and full use of car is essential.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Administrative

Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to other clinical practitioners

Extract all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding notes

Complete coding updates on EMIS and file letters with the DOCMAN system

Ensure all new data is uploaded on EMIS ie: diagnosis, codes, echo reports and highlight relevant info in letter and send action to GP if required

Upload any normal lab results to EMIS system ensure coding and filed

Arranging appointments, referrals, test and follow up appointments for patients

Safeguarding

Manage the safeguarding concerns spreadsheet for the practice

Complete information gathering with external agencies for GP as required

Update patient template on EMIS

Attend monthly safeguarding meetings with GPs and external agencies as required and complete and distribute minutes

Clinical:

Prepare patient prior to going into see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings in readiness for the GP appointment

Dipping urine, taking blood pressures, ECGs and phlebotomy

Explaining treatment procedures to the patient

Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies eg: getting an on call doctor on the phone to ask advice or arrange admission with the GP continues consultation

Supporting the GP with immunisation. Wound care

Provide a chaperoning service for patients if required

Review duty list to ensure appropriate appointment booking by reception

Refer and signpost any inappropriate appointments from duty list ie: meds reviews to Clinical Pharmacists

Support Reception team to ensure appropriate appointment bookings on duty list
