Main Duties and Responsibilities
Strategy and Development
Work with the Head of Communications and Marketing to develop an annual marketing plan to support the charitys fundraising and retail strategy.
Manage own workload to deliver on set objectives and KPIs.
Build strong working relationships with all income generation and marketing colleagues, and across the wider charity.
Evaluate and monitor all aspects of income generation communications online and offline using analytical tools.
Produce high level marketing metrics to support fundraising managers in the evaluation and reporting of key events, appeals and campaigns.
Research and develop new marketing trends and opportunities to help maximise income generation.
Keep up to date with best practice in the charity sector generally, but particularly with regards to fundraising communications innovation, legislation and codes of practice.
Ensure all income generation communications and marketing materials meet legal compliance and regulatory requirements, e.g. Charity Commission guidance, Gift Aid, GDPR and hospice policies.
Have a good understanding of income generation and communications.
Be an active participant in all Income Generation Department meetings and working groups.
Leadership and Management
Lead the Fundraising Marketing Team to deliver on agreed objectives and targets identified in the fundraising strategy.
Manage the Fundraising Marketing Officer, and Communications and Marketing Assistant, by agreeing clear objectives, holding monthly 1-1s and annual reviews, and providing effective and supportive line management.
Develop your team through mentoring, coaching and training.
Develop internal relationships with the charitys corporate, clinical, medical and retail teams, and identify opportunities to increase income within the organisation through collaborative working.
Ensure the Fundraising Marketing Team works within the Fundraising Code of Practice and maintains a high standard of supporter care.
Campaigns and Communication
In partnership with fundraising managers and the Fundraising Marketing Team, develop and lead the delivery of comprehensive, multi-channel promotional strategies to support campaigns, events and appeals such as Light up a Life, Treecycling and individual giving promotion.
Support fundraising colleagues and the Head of Communications and Marketing to produce and deliver direct mail such as appeals and supporter magazines.
Ensure the Fundraising Marketing Team is sourcing and producing case studies to support fundraising activity.
Develop and maintain a suite of impact statements and price points for use in income generation communications.
Work with fundraising managers to produce engaging supporter fundraising packs and materials, to help develop income from new and existing supporters.
Digital and Social Media
Supported by the Communications and Marketing Assistant, and the Fundraising Marketing Officer, oversee the delivery of all fundraising and retail content across social media channels including Facebook, X, LinkedIn and Instagram.
Develop and maintain the fundraising content and donation functionality on the Birmingham Hospice website, liaising with the CMS provider to improve functionality and scope, and maintain site standards.
Monitor, analyse and report on key digital activity in relation to fundraising and retail content.
Monitor and review traffic to the income generation pages of the charitys website, and take steps to increase visitor numbers and conversion rates.
PR and Marketing
Work with fundraising and retail colleagues to develop and deliver innovative and engaging marketing plans that include the production of printed materials, video content and digital assets.
Act as a brand guardian, ensuring the Birmingham Hospice brand is consistent and following guidelines across all fundraising and retail printed collateral, merchandise and signage.
Liaise with fundraising and retail colleagues to ensure all marketing collateral is accurate, of high quality, and approved in a timely manner.
Work with fundraising and retail managers to develop supplier briefings and act as a first point of contact for external graphic designers, PR agencies and web developers.
Build strong relationships with external suppliers to ensure efficient working and value for money. Identify opportunities for cost savings where possible.
Ensure that all marketing materials are produced on time and within budget.
Collate and distribute powerful and engaging supporter case studies through online and offline channels.
Build strong media and PR relationships with local and regional contacts, and engage them in the hospices fundraising and retail activities.
Be the day-to-day contact for all fundraising and retail media enquiries, liaising with fundraising and retail managers where appropriate.
Identify newsworthy fundraising and retail stories, and manage the delivery of press releases, editorial content and blogs accordingly.
Expectations
Work flexible hours including evenings and weekends when required.
Ability to travel to external meetings.
Ability to work across both hospice sites (Selly Park and Erdington).
Assist at fundraising events and activities where appropriate and necessary.
Undertake any other duties as may be required by the Head of Communications and Marketing, and the Income Generation Director.

The prevention and control of infection is the responsibility of everyone who is employed by the hospice. Employees must be aware of infection control policies, procedures and the importance of protecting themselves and their clients in maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Information Governance
- All employees are responsible for ensuring they undertake any training relating to information governance, read the hospices policies, procedures and guidance documents relating to information governance, and understand how this affects them in their role.
Professional Development
- All employees must participate in an annual appraisal and develop a personal development plan with their line manager.
- All employees are responsible for maintaining their statutory and mandatory training.
Safeguarding Children, Young People and Vulnerable Adults
The hospice is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All employees and volunteers are therefore expected to behave in such a way that supports this commitment.
