Job summary

Rossendale Hospice is seeking a Patient Escort/Driver to be an integral part of our team that is committed to providing compassionate care to our patients. Your primary responsibility will be to safely transport patients to and from the Hospice and their homes while upholding the highest level of professionalism and demonstrating courtesy, patience, and respect for patients at all times.

You will also be responsible for managing and coordinating volunteers who will be assisting you in your duties. Additionally, you will be required to provide transport services for other departments as needed once your patient transport duties are fulfilled. Your role is vital in ensuring our patients receive the care and support they need.

Main duties of the job

  • To escort/transport Hospice patients travelling on Hospice transport ensuring their safety and comfort. Ensure the patient's belongings are transported safely and that all items are deposited with the patient at the home address on the return.
  • Collecting patient meals as required.
  • Ensure Hospice vehicle(s) are kept clean and readily available for use, making sure the relevant checks are performed, including lights, fuel, water, and oil levels, and recording the information on the appropriate checklist.
  • Ensure the Hospice vehicles are taken for necessary annual service to the appointed garage, with any problems immediately reported to Admin.
  • Receive daily transport schedule from Day Therapy, checking the information given to ensure the schedule is reasonable/possible and to source directions to any new address before the journey commences.
  • Ensure vehicle daily diary log is kept up to date with journey information.
  • Whilst undertaking driving duties, observe the Highway Code, ensuring that neither the patient nor the vehicle is put in danger by dangerous driving.
  • Coordinate additional transport requests from other departments once patient transport duties are fulfilled, updating your Line Manager of whereabouts as necessary.
  • Managing volunteer drivers ensuring they are fully conversant with the vehicle for driving duties and adhering to the Driver's Handbook.
  • Ensure any patient equipment used e.g wheelchairs are fit for use and services as necessary.
  • General maintenance.

Be the first point of contact for incoming enquiries from supporters to the Income Generation Team whether online or in person

To work with the Head of Income Generation to develop the Donor Journey and identify opportunities to maximise the impact of supporters donations through real life impact of their support. To include thank you letters/cards, newsletters, promotional mailings and incentives.

To provide warm, thankful, and efficient donor care to all supporters.

Deliver excellent stewardship to event participants and ensure automated communications are sent in a timely manner.

To implement thankyou events and incentives such as our Giving Tree.

To be reactive to supporters raising funds in the community and provide resources where required.

Maintain the fundraising database and including but not limited to record donations, communications and upload gift aid declarations whilst working with trained volunteers to deliver on these tasks.

Liaise with the Finance team to ensure that accurate financial records are maintained, and financial best practices are adhered to.

To keep up to date with Information Governance, Fundraising Regulator and GDPR legislation.

Any other duties as appropriate to the role.

OTHER

To have an understanding of the Fundraising Code of Practice and keep up to date with changes relating to charity fundraising.

To undertake any other relevant duties or projects delegated by the Head of Income Generation in line with the responsibilities of this role.

Operate within the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Formerly Data Protection Act

Participate in annual appraisal and monthly 1-1s.
