Job summary

To supplement our permanent Portering team, our team of bank staff provide cover for planned and unplanned shortfalls in staffing, covering vacancies and staff absences. We are now seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and proactive bank Porter to provide operational cover within the hospice as part of our Facilities team, as and when required. Ad hoc, flexible working hours

Main duties of the job

Working in a busy hospice environment, the role will support the effective running of our Portering team during periods of staff leave, absences and during busy periods. The post holder will undertake a varied role as well as security within the hospice. This may include collection and delivery of goods, monitoring all areas of the hospice for faults, issues etc., ensuring the exterior of the hospice is kept safe, clean and presentable, carrying out security checks and making sure points of entry are all secured as required. The Porter role also includes the transportation of patients, clinical packages and supplies to and from the hospice. We are looking for someone with experience in a similar role, with some maintenance and health and safety knowledge. The post holder must hold a full, clean driving licence. You must be able to work well in a team and have good interpersonal and communication skills, along with a non-judgmental and empathetic approach. Flexibility in order to cover the needs of a 24/7 service and a commitment to the vision and values of Bolton Hospice are essential. Experience of dealing with security issues would be an advantage.

Our consultant-led team of doctors, nurses and other professional staff provide expert care and support for local people with terminal or life-limiting illnesses and their families, in the hospice and at home. We not only take care of patients' physical needs, we consider their emotional, spiritual and social needs too. And we support families and close friends, both during illness and in bereavement. We care for patients throughout their illness, helping to improve their wellbeing and quality of life. We also provide compassionate, dedicated and dignified care for patients at the end of their life.
