Job summary

Come and work for a successful Low Intensity Talking Therapies service with an excellent reputation for delivering high quality patient care and consistently high recovery rates. You will be employed by Richmond Borough Mind which runs the Step 2 element of the Richmond NHS Talking Therapies Service, led by South West London and St. Georges Mental Health NHS Trust (SWLStG). We work closely with our Step 3 High Intensity colleagues in this co-located service in Twickenham.

The role will involve a mix of remote and hybrid working, however this may change depending on service needs. Please note that all staff would need to come in person to manage equipment, for client work and for occasional meetings.

Main duties of the job

Qualified in Low Intensity work, with the recognised Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) qualification, you will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to meet the demands of a challenging but rewarding role. Opportunity to train as a supervising PWP could be open to suitably experienced PWPs. You will be managing your own caseload through delivering groups and workshops, offering CCBT and individual guided self-help. Regular clinical supervision will be provided by the Clinical or Service lead, in addition to regular line management and training opportunities.

Each PWP is able to champion an area of interest to them within the service, involving learning and outreach. For personal development you will have access to expertise from both the Trust and the local Mind network.

Activities run throughout the week, including evenings and your rota will be agreed in advance.

About us

You will be working with a team of dynamic, dedicated and committed Senior PWPs, PWPs and Trainees and be part of successful teams at both RB Mind and our partners, South West London and St. Georges Mental Health NHS Trust. Following RB Minds staff happiness survey, all PWPs said they were highly motivated, found their job worthwhile, had good relationships within the team and that RB Mind are a good organisation to work for. Many of our PWPs have gone on to high intensity training within the service.

Based near central Twickenham you may be part home-based and also able to travel throughout the Borough of Richmond to ensure that our service is responsive to the needs of all communities.

Job description

Job responsibilities

1. Clinical

1.1. Accept referrals via agreed protocols within the service and develop programmes of care packages.

1.2. Assess and support people with a common mental health problem in the self-management of their recovery.

1.3. Undertake patient-centred interviews which identify areas where the person wishes to see change and or recovery and make an accurate assessment of risk to self and others.

1.4. Undertake assessments on suitability of new referrals, adhering to the services referral protocols, referring suitable clients to the relevant care pathway within the service and referring unsuitable clients on to the relevant service or back to the referral agent as appropriate.

1.5. Provide a range of information and support for evidence based high-volume low-intensity psychological treatments. This includes guided self-help, computerised CBT, group interventions and information about pharmacological treatments. This work may be face to face, on the telephone or via other media.

1.6. Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary.

1.7. Adhere to an agreed activity contract relating to the overall number of client contacts offered, and clinical sessions carried out per week in order to minimise waiting times and ensure treatment delivery remains accessible and convenient.

1.8. Attend multi-disciplinary meetings relating to referrals or clients in treatment, where appropriate.

1.9. Complete all requirements relating to data collection within the service.

2. Professional

2.1. Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any external regulation, and keep up to date on new recommendations/guidelines set by the department of health (e.g., NHS plan, National Institute for Clinical Excellence).

2.2. Ensure that client confidentiality and client information security is protected at all times. To treat with confidentiality any personal, private, or sensitive information about individuals, organisations, clients, staff, etc.

2.3. Be aware of and keep up to date with advances in the spheres of treatment for common mental health problems.

2.4. Ensure clear objectives are identified, discussed, and reviewed with supervisor on a regular basis as part of continuing professional development.

2.5. Keep up to date all records in relation to professional development and ensure personal development plan maintains up to date specialist knowledge of latest theoretical and service delivery models/developments.

2.6. Attend relevant conferences / workshops in line with identified professional objectives.

2.7. Contribute to the development of evidence-based best practice within the service, and where appropriate to service development in response to identified needs.

2.8. Ensure that equality and diversity are key considerations in service development and delivery.

3. General

3.1. Keep accurate and appropriate records, providing information for monitoring and evaluation as required.

3.2. Participate in and actively contribute to individual supervision, training and team meetings as required. To attend all staff meetings and organisational events as required.

3.3. Work in accordance with RB Mind's Aims, Objectives and Values.
