Job summary

To fulfil the role effectively you will be a creative and resilient person and able to work flexibly and collaboratively across the care services.

You will have experience of working with children and families who have complex needs, offering support packages that meet their individual requirements.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking a new Sibling Coordinator to join our Family Support Team, to work with children and young people who are the sibling of a child with a life limiting condition. The role involves providing holistic support from the point of referral through to post bereavement and includes, one to one support, group work and facilitation of a full activity and events programme.

From 1st April 2022 all direct care provision and/or close contact roles at Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice require full COVID vaccination as a Condition of Deployment. The role of Sibling Coordinator falls into this category.

At Bluebell Wood Childrens Hospice, we care for children and young adults with life-shortening and life-limiting conditions. We are currently supporting around 300 families, both in our hospice and in family homes.

Our support services are wide ranging and bespoke to each family; including end of life treatment and care, music therapy, counselling, sibling support groups, home visits and much, much more. It costs more than £5m to keep our doors open for families across South Yorkshire and beyond. We receive around 15% of our funding from government sources.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Key Responsibilities:

To coordinate support services for siblings of families accepted to Bluebell Wood from the point of referral through to post bereavement support.

To facilitate the assessment of individual needs, monitor progress and ensure this is reviewed regularly within an evidence-based approach.

To work in partnership with other professionals and agencies.

To further develop and deliver services for siblings within the hospice and wider community including developing volunteer roles to enhance opportunities available.

To act as an advocate for siblings both internally and externally as required.

To ensure services are inclusive and accessible for all siblings, ensuring an integrated approach to support children and young peoples social, physical and emotional wellbeing.

To facilitate the provision of ongoing emotional support to siblings in conjunction with the Family Support and Care Teams, ensuring available support is appropriate and timely.

To provide information about the services available through Bluebell Wood to siblings and professionals and to promote these services to potential referrers.

Key Tasks

To design and facilitate good quality service provision for siblings. working closely with the wider hospice team.

To facilitate group work for siblings, encouraging and promoting peer support.

To represent Bluebell Wood at external meetings to make links with related agencies.

To evaluate and obtain good quality feedback from siblings engaging in our services, in order to inform future service delivery.

Act as an advocate for siblings at Bluebell Wood, making sure their views and needs are heard.

Work with the Head of Family Support to develop volunteer roles to support the extension of service provision.

Develop and maintain good working relationships with other agencies, statutory and voluntary.

Utilise evidence based assessment tools to identify individual sibling needs and negotiate plans of support in response to these needs.

Offer appropriate packages of sibling support that reflect changing needs, visiting families at home where required.

Support volunteers as deemed appropriate and relevant to role.

Act as a signposting service for families; directing them to counsellors, social services, self-help groups etc. as required.

Communication

Establish and maintain effective communication with children, young people and their families, including through the use of web pages, newsletters, social media etc.

Establish and maintain effective communication with relevant individuals and groups to support siblings; including key members of the hospice; volunteers; service users; statutory and voluntary organisations.

Develop mechanisms to engage with service users enabling siblings to have a voice, which influences current and future service provision.
