Barnardo's West Yorkshire Keyworker Service in partnership with Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust (BDCT) and NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB) are developing and leading a 12-month Bradford Psychology Service Pilot which will provide high quality specialist clinical psychology service across Bradford and Craven. To implement and develop this Pilot we would like your expertise to shape our Service.

We are looking for a HCPC Registered, highly motivated, experienced and reflective Consultant Clinical Psychologist who has both passion for and experience of working with children, young people, parents/carers and their families and the system around them including inpatient contexts. You will lead the psychological service as Consultant Clinical Psychologist for autistic children and young people and those with a learning disability and complex needs on the Dynamic Support Register and the Complex Support Needs Panel in Bradford.

Main duties of the job

You will be an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist in children's services with experience/expertise in autism, learning disabilities, complex needs and inpatient settings, looking for an opportunity to extend and apply their skills in a post with senior leadership responsibilities and service development.

You will clinically supervise the Assistant Psychologist. Through consultancy, clinical supervision, reflective practice, team formulation, training and clinical case management, you will help the team create innovative effective service that adheres to best practice guidelines delivering high-quality care.

You will provide assessment, formulation care planning and support the system to enable the needs of children and young people are effectively met. You will share system wide learning, system leadership and strategy from the pilot.

As Consultant Clinical Psychologist, you will:

  • Have excellent stakeholder management and communication skills; working at a senior role level with credibility and influence.
  • Raise the profile of and embed the autism and learning disability related commitments, understanding of the NHS and social care landscape.
  • Have clear parameters and expectations, but there will be opportunities to positively shape and influence the portfolio and build and develop important relationships with stakeholders and partners.

To provide a specialist psychology service for high priority children and young people based on the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological (and neuropsychological if appropriate) tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with children and young people, family members and others involved in their care.

To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to young person formulation, diagnosis and treatment and care plan.

To primarily provide support to children and young people who are on the dynamic support register and complex support needs panel and those who are approaching or are at crisis level.

To work alongside the Dynamic Support Register and Complex Support Needs Panel Leads and the Keyworker Service to support hospital admissions and discharge planning, ensuring collaboration, leadership of MDTs, and information sharing.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As a Senior Professional to be allocated appropriate work, attend relevant meetings and offer formulation for children and young people in community, at high risk of family and placement breakdown and hospital admission.

To attend Dynamic Support Register meetings and provide information and updates. To lead related follow up work as identified in the best interests of children and young people.

To have a dedicated caseload whereby the postholder provides direct clinical care to children and young people with highly complex needs and clinical presentations.

To support multi-disciplinary teams to develop consistent communication plans and sensory understanding.

To provide clinical supervision and ensure supervision is in place for the Assistant Psychologist, providing case management supervision as required and attending to wellbeing and retention of staff.

Knowledge, training and experience
