Job summary

We are recruiting for two Wellbeing Practitioner Adult Counsellors to join our team, contributing to the development and delivery of our specialist wellbeing service which is aligned with the strategic vision for families in Cardiff.

Main duties of the job

Aim of the Service

To deliver formulated, bespoke evidence-based interventions for children, young people and adults within families, co-constructing whole family approaches to problems they may be experiencing in relation to their emotional / mental health and wellbeing. This service considers systemic approaches supporting individuals within families to build resilience to improve safe, whole family functioning.

The Service comprises of a number of elements inclusive of:

  • Access to one -to- one and couples counselling for parents/carers with low level mental health needs.
  • Access to one-to-one play therapy or counselling for children and young people.
  • Access to trained family practitioner supportwho deliver affirming, therapeutically informed one-one and group work programmes and interventions to children, young people and adults.
  • Access to a range of range of creative, therapeutic programmes and interventions with specialist practitioners, helping families to address issues around whole family functioning, including support for families who are particularly affected by bereavement, trauma and loss, including family breakdown.

  • To promote, monitor and maintain health safety and security in the working environment

  • Suitably qualified, registered and experienced in counselling

  • Experience of working as part of a multi disciplinary team
  • Experience undertaking complex clinical interventions, assessments, including risk assessments
  • Experience working cooperatively with a range of agencies
  • Experience planning and evaluating therapeutic interventions
  • Experience of advising and developing pathways necessary to support sustainable long term improvements of the individual.

Skills / Abilities

  • Ability to listen to and communicate effectively with children and young people
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to supervise work of others
  • Ability to accurately and clearly record case notes deploying the necessary standard of writing and IT skills
  • Ability to write reports and produce other management information
  • Ability to analyse and resolve problems occurring in relation to service users and or staff supervised.
  • Ability to apply Barnardos safeguarding and child protection procedures
