Whilst there is no such thing as a typical day at Ace
Centre, as a Rehabilitation Engineer you can be sure that you'll be doing work

You will work collaboratively as part of a supportive and
passionate multi-disciplinary team including Speech and Language Therapists,
Occupational Therapists, Teachers, Engineers, and Assistant Practitioners. You
will be supported by an experienced and dedicated team of clinical
administration, technical and shared services colleagues, working in a
person-centred environment with a wide variety of professionals in a multitude
of settings.
The role would suit an enthusiastic and highly motivated
individual, with an interest in, and preferably experience of, working with Assistive
Technology and experience of working with people with a range of disabilities.

Main duties of the job
Based in our Abingdon office, this vacancy for a Rehabilitation Engineer sits within our Engineering & Technical Services Team.
If successful, you will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to complete assessments,
develop innovative and effective engineering solutions, install equipment across a variety of environments, and liaise with clients, their families, carers, and professionals
from other services.
You will also
contribute to the development and delivery of a programme of accredited and
non-accredited training related to Assistive Technology, particularly on technical or
engineering issues.
We typically work
weekdays, 9am to 5pm, although you may be required to work occasional flexible
hours, including overnight stays.

Based in our Abingdon office, this position involves supporting clients in various settings across the Thames Valley & Wessex region. This role will involve travel across the region and occasional overnight stays.

As a Rehabilitation Engineer, you will work collaboratively as part of a supportive and passionate multidisciplinary team and be involved in the development, delivery and coordination of the Charity's services and projects.
The main duties of the role are:
Assessment
To contribute to the assessment process with support, including:
- Coordination of the pre-assessment arrangements and resources.
- Carrying out the assessment as required.
- Documenting the assessment and recommendations in an accurate and timely manner.
- Implementing recommendations - developing, providing and installing kit, and ensuring the client and their local support has the appropriate training to use it effectively and safely.
- Providing follow-up support as appropriate.
Engineering
- To provide and install simple and practical engineering solutions to meet identified goals.
- To investigate commercially available solutions, and specify and source products to meet the needs identified in the assessment.
- To develop and specify integrated solutions that could allow a client combined access to Assistive Technology (AT), Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC), mobility, Environmental Controls (EC) and/or computer access with support.
- To use basic tools and machinery to manufacture bespoke solutions to commercial standards within tight deadlines under supervision.
Training
- To assist with the research, development, and delivery of a programme of accredited and non-accredited training related to AT and AAC.
- To contribute to the training and development of the wider Ace Centre staff team on technical or engineering issues.
- To instruct clients, families, carers, and other external parties in the use of mounts, access devices and accessories, identifying manual handling, environmental and health and safety risks.
