About us

Birchwood Residential Treatment Centre is a 25-bed detoxification/rehabilitation unit situated in Heswall in The Wirral. In 2023 we relocated to a new service Birchwood @ Kaleidoscope House in Heswall . This new service has an extra 5 beds available for local and national referrals . Birchwood offers detoxification/rehabilitation treatment and support for people wishing to stop using illicit, prescription drugs or alcohol.

We provide both clinical and psycho-social interventions to facilitate the detoxification process and to increase the chances of sustained recovery on exit from the unit.

Job description

Job responsibilities

MAIN DUTIES:

1. To ensure they are familiar with various issues relating to clients, by participating in handovers, accessing Theseus and liaising with managers and colleagues.

2. Maintain a visible presence throughout period of duty, being available for routine queries from clients.

3. To undertake client facing support e.g. crisis /welfare interventions

4. To provide personal care to clients as and when required e.g., assistance with bathing, dressing, et

5. Undertake drug testing of clients, if required; to complete any reports relating to drug testing and to inform relevant agencies accordingly.

6. To assist and support the nursing/therapeutic staff on duty.

7. To support clients to external appointments, e.g., doctors, dentist, court etc.

8. To undertake any practical tasks, cleaning/laundry etc that may be deemed necessary.

9. To identify issues of Child Protection that may arise as a result of contact with service users and notify Line Manager.

10. To adhere to the National Care Commission’s Minimum Standards for Care Homes.

11. To recognise and work within personal and professional boundaries.
