Main duties of the job

Our ideal candidate

Experience in working in a Health or Education Setting

Experience working with children or young people with additional needs is preferable (education and development available for the right candidate)

A passion for providing high quality holistic care

Enjoy working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Able to work a variety of shifts, including weekend and night shifts.

Martin House provides care and support to children and young people with life limiting illnesses, and to their families. The hospice is in Boston Spa, Wetherby and we care for children and young people from across West, North and East Yorkshire.

Care Team Member

Responsible to: Care Team Leader

Hours of Work: According to individual contract, with a requirement to work some unsocial hours as needed including evenings, weekends and nights

Place of Work: Martin House and in the Community

Overall Purpose of Role:

To create and support a homely and welcoming environment in which families feel safe nurtured and rested. Provide care (physical, emotional, spiritual and social) to the affected child and their family. To work flexibly both within Martin House and the community

Tasks and duties:

1. To contribute positively to the creation and help sustain the welcoming community environment, and to establish good communication.

2. To provide total holistic care to the poorly child, including activities such as play and recreation as well as attending to the child’s physical and emotional needs.

3. To hold each member of the team in positive regard and to foster a culture of respect and consideration between all staff.

4. To work flexibly alongside families respecting the child routine of care.

5. To ensure that care routines and practice are documented accurately and clearly communicated.

6. To participate equally with other care team members in general household activities to facilitate the smooth running and family feel of Martin House.

7. To ensure accurate and contemporaneous record adhering to standards of confidentiality at all times.

8. To work closely with the Care Team Leader on each shift and inform them of any issues that need resolving.

Health & safety:

9. To be aware of the safety needs of the children, siblings, parents and colleagues and adopt a preventative safety approach to all times.

10. To report all accidents incidents and untoward incidents to a Deputy Director of Care and Clinical Services.

11. To be aware of your health and safety responsibilities as an employee and adhere to these.

Personal development:

12. To adopt a positive and reflective approach to personal and professional development.

13. To participate constructively in a yearly annual appraisal.

14. To undertake core competencies for clinical skills and specific training and to remain updated.

15. To work in conjunction with the education co-ordinators to develop your practice and care for the children.

16. To work contracted hours including unsocial hours as required, weekends. evenings and nights.
