Job summary

The Head of Income Generation and Marketing leads our fundraising, retail and marketing teams to achieve our ambitious five-year strategy and deliver growth of sustainable income. You will drive forward our plans to grow our income and to reach and support more people living with a life limiting illness across the borough of Rochdale.

Springhill Hospice has good foundations to build on; a strong and aspiring team with excellent performance across many areas of income generation, and well-developed practices. We are loved by our community and keen to spread the word about the care and services we provide and bust some of the myths about hospices.

We are looking for a motivated, creative and ambitious candidate who will lead the development and delivery of the income generation strategy, playing your part in ensuring the financial sustainability of the Hospice, meaning the people of HMR get the best possible palliative and end of life care. You will embrace digital opportunities, maximise efficiencies and return on investment of all our income streams whilst raising the profile of Springhill Hospice.

Main duties of the job

Realise Springhills vision, values and strategic ambitions through the delivery of the required income to support the future financial sustainability of the Hospice.

Develop and deliver a comprehensive and progressive income generation and marketing and communications strategy utilising all available voluntary and commercial income streams.

About us

This role is based at The Craven, 7 Broad Lane, Rochdale.

Springhill Hospice provides the following palliative care services to the local adult population who are suffering from the effects of life-limiting and terminal illnesses:

A 16-bed Inpatient unit providing 24-hour medical and nursing care.

Hospice at Home Service - supports people who want to end their days in their own home by providing the support and symptom management they need to be able to do so.

A Day Therapies Centre for up to 16 patients, 4-days-a-week, offering complementary therapies (e.g. reflexology, aromatherapy and massage); creative and beauty therapies, social activities and clinical support.

Community Service - provides specialist palliative care and support to patients and families in their own homes

A 24-hour Palliative Care Advice Line for patients, families, carers and health professionals.

Bereavement Support for relatives following loss.

Counselling Services for patients, carers and relatives, provided by a qualified therapist.

An Education Unit - an in-house training facility for hospice staff and local health and social care professionals, with the main focus of training being on the Springhill Palliative Care Education Passport' (SPCEP) which ensures that core palliative care skills are taught to all grades of staff.

Income generation

Develop and deliver an innovative income and communications strategy that delivers Springhills values and strategic aims with an emphasis on growth and supporter engagement. Ensure strategies are continually reviewed and refreshed to meet the needs of the Hospice

Develop new income generation initiatives leading projects through to successful implementation

Develop clear supporter journeys focussing on valuing supporter care and converting long term support. Ensure that these are implemented and monitored on a regular basis

Marketing and communications

Ensure the Marketing and Communications Team use innovative forms of media and more traditional media to promote Springhill Hospice

Drive forward the use and analysis of data to develop targeted communications

Ensure all activities and methods of marketing are aligned to Springhills strategic direction

Digital transformation

Lead the development of technology within the Income Generation Team to support the advancement of cross function working and effective supporter journey management

Lead the Income Generation Team to embrace technology, digital tools and business intelligence to understand and drive improved performance. Ensure all staff are fully IT literate and have the necessary skills and technology to fulfil their roles effectively and to meet the requirements of our local community and supporters

Ensure maximum effectiveness of the CRM database (Donorflex) and EPOS system (Nisyst)

Leadership and management

As a member of the Operational Management Team (OMT) contribute to the development and delivery of the Hospice strategy and services

Provide inspirational, clear leadership to the Income Generation Team, motivating them to ensure they are actively working to deliver targets and objectives

Ensure the Income Generation Team are managed effectively and have the appropriate resources to achieve targets

Ensure the Income Generation Team continuously review how they operate to identify quality improvements and efficiency savings

Budget and financial performance

As budget holder for the Income Generation Team, create and achieve financial budgets and targets (income and expenditure)

Utilise effective financial processes and sector benchmarking to forecast income trends

Monitor and evaluate financial and non-financial performance and create contingency plans to predict and rectify any variables

Develop effective business cases to identify new opportunities

Reporting and compliance

Develop and review policies and procedures relating to income generation and marketing

Responsible for the audit and compliance of all income generation activities and sites

Provide reports as required by the Director of Corporate Services

General:

Attend team meetings as appropriate

Develop a close working relationship with staff and volunteers within the Income Generation and Marketing Team and the wider Hospice team, ensuring a positive view of the Hospice is promoted at all times

Act as an ambassador for Springhill Hospice, including, but not limited to, undertaking speaking engagements, acting as a spokesperson with the media, attending Springhill Hospice events, and attending networking events and conferences as required

Maintain membership of appropriate professional bodies

Attend courses as required to maintain own knowledge and further develop expertise

Participate in the Hospices education and training programmes including mandatory training

Read, understand and comply with all Hospice policies and procedures, applying the principles appropriate to the role

To be aware of individual specific responsibilities in respect of the Safeguarding of Vulnerable Adults, in relation to the role
